Royally Yours: Week in Review

It was a rough week for the Kansas City Royals. They went 1-5 last week and the offense struggled getting shutout in two games. The Royals offense will need to show up this week when they face the Washington Nationals. The Royals play the Nationals Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday and it will be the Royals second interleague series this season. The Royals weekend series will be in Cleveland where the Royals will play the Indians. It will be an important divisional matchup for the Royals and could be important at the end of the season in the divisional race.DysonHosmer

Eric Hosmer’s hitting streak ended on Saturday against the Mariners. Hosmer had the longest hitting streak this season at 18 games. Hosmer’s hitting streak is impressive and he has been one of the best players for the Royals during their slump. He has a .326 average this season and leads the team in batting average, OBP and hits. He is also a dependable first baseman. He has yet to give up an error this season and he has a good chance at winning another Gold Glove.

The Royals have not played well on the west coast this season. Their record is 2-7 when they play in the west. Luckily the Royals are finished with their west coast games this season. It is hard to pinpoint why the Royals struggled with their west coast games but the start time appears to be the most likely reason. The Royals home games this season have started at 6 and 7pm central time and when they play on the west coast their evening games start at 9pm central. The Royals do not have to deal with it again this season but it is something to watch in the future.alCentralLogos

The Royals are currently in third in the American League Central behind the Chicago White Sox and Detroit Tigers. It is still very early in the season but the American League Central looks like one of the toughest divisions in baseball. Games against division rivals this season will be even more important because of the depth of the division.
