Royally Yours: Week in Review

The Royals are off to a great start to the 2016 season and are looking like one of the best teams in the American League. They had important American League match-ups this last week against the Tigers and Orioles. Next week they will face the Mariners and Angels, two potential playoff teams in the AL West. The Royals are in an important stretch of their schedule and wins are going to be crucial.MikeMoustakas2

Mike Moustakas has continued to surprise so far this season. Entering Sunday’s game he was tied for second most home runs in the American League with 6. Moustakas has added much-needed power to the Royals lineup. He has developed into a well-rounded hitter and is having success in his new spot at the top of the lineup.

JarrodDysonJarrod Dyson was removed from the DL last week and has looked good in his return. He has a batting average and OBP over .300. He has only played in seven games so far, so these stats are a little inflated but they are still impressive. Dyson’s real value is his speed. He is very dangerous if he gets on base because he is always looking to steal and is only caught steeling a little over 10 percent of the time. Dyson is also valuable in the outfield. Kauffman Stadium has one of the largest outfields in baseball and Dyson’s speed is a great addition to the Royals already stellar defense.

Eric-Hosmer-Kansas-City-RoyalsEric Hosmer has been one of the most consistent batters so far this season and is currently working on a 14 game hit streak. Hosmer is leading the Royals in batting average, OBP and hits. Not only is Hosmer’s offense great this year but his defense has been gold glove worthy. He has not committed an error this season and has a perfect fielding percentage. Eric Hosmer’s consistency has been a key part of the Royals great start.

All Star voting opened on Sunday and the many Royals will look to return to the midsummer classic. The Royals had seven players on the All-Star Game roster last year. Ned Yost will be the manager again this year and if Royals fans vote like they did last year there is no reason why the All-Star Game will not be filled with Royals.
