Duelly Noted: How Can the Blues Finish The 1st Round Strong?

BluevsBlackhawksPuckThe St. Louis Blues find themselves in the unlikeliest of situations. They have a big chance on Thursday to unseat the defending Stanley Cup champions and their biggest rivals, the Chicago Blackhawks, on home turf. The series has been very controversial and a lot tighter than the Blues’ current 3-1 series lead would have someone believe. The Blues will need to bring their A game come Game 5 if they want to do what many would consider unthinkable.

One of the reasons this series is still going on is the questionable officiating that happend throughout it. It has led to many penalties, goals being taken away and even games changed.  The Blues need to stay out of the box and keep plays and situations that could be interpreted either way to a bare minimum. The Blues can not afford to give the officials a chance to make any more   judgement calls that can change the game. If the Blackhawks see an opportunity to capitalize, they can and likely will take it. The Blues will need to play as clean a game as they can.

vladimir-tarasenko-nhlVladimir Tarasenko has been on fire as of late in these playoffs. He has accounted for many of the Blues’ goals in this series. As amazing as that is, it wouldn’t be the worst thing in the world to see other players contribute to the scoring. The odd goal from Parayko here or there is good but if they really want to prove to the league that they are not going away and that this is a team that wants to have a shot at the Cup, they’ll need help from guys like Alex Steen, Jori Lehtera or even the newly returned, Steve Ott. Hockey is a team sport and if they want to win, everybody needs in on the goal scoring.

One of the Blues’ biggest stars throughout the season and the playoffs has been their goalie’ Brian Elliott. His masterful goal tending has kept the Blues in many a game up to this point. The Blues would be absolutely foolish to change things up at this point. They need to ride his hot streak as far as they possibly can.brian_elliott_wallpaper

The Blues have never had a better chance to make an impact than the one they have on Thursday. They are in a place where they can pull off one of the biggest upsets in the 2016 Stanley Cup Playoffs, if not the biggest. All the Blues need to do is keep the offensive pressure going, stay out of the box and stay out of anything that the officials need to check out if they can help it. Our defense and goalie will have to stay sharp all the way through as well. It has been a tough series for sure but the Blues have shown a never say die spirit that they have lacked in earlier years. If any Blues team can win a series against the Blackhawks, it is this one.
