Women’s Wrestling Wrap Up

Welcome to the Women’s Wrestling Wrap Up, which details everything in the past week in women’s wrestling, beginning with Monday’s Raw.

natalya-514Raw featured a monumental Women’s Championship match between Charlotte and Natalya; the first actual defense of the new belt since its instillation at WrestleMania two weeks ago. I was expecting this at Payback in 13 days, but after the way this ended, with a DQ finish, it does look like the two women will face off again at Payback. In fact, online articles state that the current Charlotte/Natalya feud may go on for months. I hope Nattie actually wins the title. Counting the Divas Championship reign, Charlotte has been champion for seven months now, while Nattie hasn’t been champion in five years.

Tuesday’s Impact Wrestling featured the Knockouts making themselves heard when it came to Maria Kanellis and her demand about Jade handing her the Knockouts Championship, while also declaring that she’s the leader of the Knockouts. After the verbal melee, Billy Corgan announced that a ladder match will take place on the next Impact, with the winner becoming the leader of the Knockouts. Meanwhile, Jade had her first defense of the Knockouts Championship, a successful one against Madison Rayne.Bayley..

Wednesday’s NXT featured a double dose of women’s action, as Alexa Bliss faced off against the phenomenal Tessa Blanchard; yet another one of the indy talents that have appeared on NXT in the past several months. However, the main focus was on Bayley, as she defeated Liv Morgan in her first appearance since she lost the NXT Women’s Championship on April 1. After her win, Bayley gave a passionate speech promising to regain the title back from Asuka. Also on Lucha Underground, Taya was in action, as she and Johnny Mundo were oddly paired up with Cage in the Trios Championship tournament; of course, they were unsuccessful.

EmmaNewLookAfter Maryse kicked off SmackDown, Emma defeated Paige in singles action. I’m so glad Emma is back on the main roster, especially after the tumultuous year she had since the shoplifting incident. We all remember this. It was June 2014, and WWE actually fired Emma for the incident, but due to the outrage by fans comparing Emma’s situation to that involving Cameron, who is less talented than Emma, but was not fired after her bribing and DUI incident, Emma was quickly rehired. However, she was basically a jobber on main shows and was sent back to NXT last year, where she became a bitter villainess and later aligned with Dana Brooke. Hopefully, her WM exposure will lead to a push down the line for Emma; she truly deserves one.

And I have to mention this. Last Monday saw former WWE Divas Champion Eve Torres appearing on Supergirl, portraying the supervillainess Maxima. Eve’s appearance in the episode was brief, but she did mix it up with the titular heroine early on. In an earlier interview with WWE.com regarding her TV appearance, Eve stated that she could be recurring on the show, should it be renewed for a second season. I hope the show gets renewed and I really hope Eve returns as Maxima!

A new week begins tonight with a possible match between Becky Lynch and Emma. Also, the aforementioned Knockouts Ladder Match on Impact! Until then!
