NBA Playoff 1st Round Preview

NBA Bracket 2016

It’s finally that time of year! Below are my quick first round thoughts and series outcomes!

Eastern Conference Playoffs

Eastern Conference

1)Cleveland vs 8)Detroitcavaliers-vs-Pistons

Not enough fire power on the Pistons end, but if Reggie Jackson can ball out on both ends of the floor, it could create a headache for the Cavs. On the other hand, if all supporting players for Cleveland can remain healthy and not shift the load to LeBron, then it should be quick and easy series. Sorry Detroit fans, glad to see you back in the mix, but we all know who the favorite is here.

Series Outcome: CLE Wins 4-1

2)Toronto vs 7)Indiana

RaptorsVSPacersIndy fouls a lot, and a big part of Toronto’s points come from the charity stripe. Both play an important part in a game, but in a series it can be crucial in any moment. This series is actually the most interesting to watch in my opinion because Toronto has been bounced in the 1st round twice by a lower seed. for the Pacers however, everyone has to be firing on all cylinders to make something happen, and not just rely on Paul George.

Series Outcome: TOR Wins 4-2

3)Miami vs 6)Charlotte

HornetsVSHeatI had no idea the Hornets would be in this position. Then again if you saw my preseason rankings I didn’t have Miami in this position either. Chris Bosh I wish you the best, may you recover from these setbacks keeping you out of contention. Charlotte has to get it done from inside out, and most importantly off the bench. The big question is if they can hold off a Miami squad that has guards that can punish them from all sides of the offensive side such as Joe Johnson in the post, and Dwayne Wade who can grab a rebound (or several) almost anytime.

Series Outcome: MIA Wins 4-2

4)Atlanta vs 5)Boston

BostonVSAtlantaAtlanta has not won either of it’s series against “BeanTown,” Even when Home Court Advantage was flipped in the 2012 series. Now, Atlanta has a shot at finally getting the monkey off their back, against this team that has plagued their playoff hopes twice in the last decade. Jeff Teague will have to show up for Atlanta, and Isaiah Thomas will have to play All-Star status the whole way through. This no doubt could go 7 games!

Series Outcome: ATL Wins 4-3

Western Conference Playoff

Western Conference

1)Golden State vs 8)Houston

HoustonVSGSDo we even need to talk about this? The Warriors worst enemy is themselves, and the only way they lose a game, is if the 3’s aren’t dropping, and they don’t defend well. Patrick Beverly will cause problems for Stephen Curry, but we all know that for an entire series he will find a way to get around and get his shots off.

Series Outcome: GSW Wins 4-0

2)San Antonio vs 7)Memphis

SpurrsVSGrizRemember when Memphis beat the Spurs as a number 1 seed? We shouldn’t see the same result, but a pesky Grizz squad can be deadly. Look for Mike Conley and Zach Randolph to play the best inside out defense they can against LaMarcus Aldridge and Kwahi Leonard.

Series Outcome: Spurs Win 4-1

3)Oklahoma City vs 6)Dallas

I’m convinced now that after last seasons issues, OKC has a lot they want to prove. Who can blame them? Dallas has remained to keep themselves in the middle of the pack as usual, but I don’t believe they have enough to keep up with the fast paced, chaotic defense of the Thunder.Thunder-v-Mavericks

Series Outcome: OKC Wins 4-0

4)LA Clippers vs 5)Portland

ClippersVSPortlandThis too should be exciting given the Clippers meltdown in the second round last year, and all that they have to prove going forward. Damian Lillard and C.J. McCollum have taken Portland to new heights. All of which was unexpected. However, if Portland can’t get its bench to step up (something we shouldn’t be new to), it will be a quick and painful series.

Series outcome: LAC Wins 4-2
