50 Shades of Blue

A lot can change in a week and as Chelsea fans know, things can change in days.

From a team that seemed hungrier under Hiddink and able to battle through, to a team who at the weekend looked totally unrecognisable.

Injuries and suspensions meant there was a fresh looking squad on display and on the bench, with some youngsters not just in the club tracksuit for once, but actually kitted up ready to be called into battle!

Hiddink picked the following team and with the subs benched picked some youngsters to get a taste of the atmosphere.

Chelsea: Begovic; Azpilicueta, Miazga, Ivanovic (c), Baba Rahman; Mikel, Fabregas; Pedro, Loftus-Cheek, Oscar; Pato.

Subs: Courtois, Aina, Kenedy, Colkett, Palmer, Traore, Falcao.ThibautCourtois

Courtois was on the bench with Hiddink saying that Begovic had acted very professional, and deserved his place in the team! Obviously a dig at Courtois and his recent comments in the media. Personally I think Begovic is the better keeper and Courtois hasn’t lived up to his star billing!

Chelsea lost the game 1-0 and with it lost their unbeaten record under Hiddink.

3 main points from the game for me.

  1. LoftusCheekAgain some fans on twitter slating Loftus-Cheeks performance, and not actually being at the game. From the reports I read, Cheek was the best player on the pitch and when he was subbed later in the game the fans booed the decision and sung Cheeks name. So I am baffled as to why some fans are singling out one of our home grown talents when the likes of Fabregas were totally anonymous on Saturday. Fabregas made 0 interceptions, 0 tackles and unusually his pass succession rate in key areas was also non existent.

2. matt-miazgaPoor Matt Miazga! a great debut last weekend and totally looked out his depth this weekend. He made many mistakes in the 1st half one of which was a poor defensive header which led to the goal, but much of his decision making was quite poor over the weekend and led to him being hooked at half time.

3. Pato being over confident as he had 2 chances to score and tried fancy stuff rather than just being clinical and then we end up not scoring and losing. If you want to win yourself a contract then put the ball in the net, Chelsea bought you in to score goals and not to perform party tricks.

In other news:

Rumour has it that Chelsea are preparing to offer $30 million for Nainggolan plus Loftus-Cheek on loan. If this story is true it is ridiculous. Why spend that money on a 28 year old and swap him with a player that is already with us who can be molded into that position.

antonio-conteNew Manager Antonio Conte visited Cobham and had a chat with some of the senior players. It’s been said that he had a heart to heart with Costa and also had a long conversation with John Terry, hopefully regarding a new contract. Conte has his work cut out with this squad and hopefully he can work wonders and take us back to the top

On loan midfielder Marco Van Ginkel is really making a name for himself back in his homeland. The midfielder is on loan at PSV after some not so fruitful loan moves to Stoke and AC Milan. However he has found his form with PSV and at the weekend netted his 6th goal in 12 games. Is the Dutch league too easy, or is the talented youngster starting to show why we invested in him.

Ivanovic may be sold on in the summer (I hear you cheering). According to reports Conte isn’t a fan of the Serbian defender and definitely doesn’t see him as captain material and may look to move him on in the summer.

Just to add

Jose-Mourinho (1)I had a debate with a young man this week about Chelsea and it dawned on me that a lot of fans supported Jose Mourinho more than they supported Chelsea. No matter what examples I gave, he kept defending Jose. He defended Jose to the point that he said Chelsea was right to get rid of De Bruyne and Lukaku because we had Moses and Demba Ba!!!! Now I know that Jose was a great manager for the club but some ‘fans’ really are clueless and no manager is bigger than a club when he makes so many errors that the players no longer have faith in him. If we are honest the writing was already on the wall for Mourinho with the way he conducted himself, and his treatment of people (Eva Carneiro). So I am baffled why fans still follow him and miss him. We were 1 point of relegation zone in November! We now have only lost once since November in the league, I think you Jose fans should think about that!

Pit of the week:

Losing unbeaten record to a not so great Swansea side.

Peak of the Week:

John Terry paying for the funeral of a Chelsea fan who died of Cancer. John has done many bad things in his career which get highlighted in the media, but when he does acts of pure generosity like this, amazingly the media don’t print it!!!

Next Fixture: 16/04/2016 Man City (H)

Until next time…….KTBFFH
