Tomahawks & Touchdowns; Potential 1st Round Picks For The Chiefs

The 2016 NFL draft will be the fourth in the Andy Reid-John Dorsey era and the Chiefs have some interesting choices for the first pick. There are a few areas where the Chiefs could add depth to their roster. Here are some of the options the Chiefs have with the 28th pick.

Many experts believe that the Chiefs will take a cornerback with their first round pick. Last year the Chiefs selected Marcus Peters in the first round and he proved to be a steal. Peters would go on to win Defensive Rookie of the Year and make the Pro Bowl. The Chiefs will need to draft a cornerback at some point in the early rounds to replace Sean Smith, who was lost to the Raiders in free agency. In the first round there are a few options for the Chiefs. If Mackensie Alexander or Eli Apple are available they would probably be the Chiefs first choice but it seems highly unlikely that they will be available that late in the first round. The most likely option for the Chiefs at cornerback in the first round is William Jackson III.

Another area of need for the Chiefs is the offensive line. The offensive line struggled last season and it seems likely that they will address this need at some point in the draft. There are some players that could possibly fall to the Chiefs in the first round. Jack Conklin and Taylor Decker are two tackles that could be available when the Chiefs make their pick. It seems unlikely that the Chiefs will pick an offensive lineman in the first round but if the right player falls to them I think the Chiefs could make a surprise pick.

JoshDoctsonThe final group the Chiefs could target in the first round is a wide receiver. Two seasons ago the Chiefs did not have a touchdown pass to a wide receiver. Acquiring Jeremy Maclin last off-season helped the offense but they still need a #2 receiver to open up the offense. Josh Doctson, Will Fuller and Laquon Treadwell are three receivers that could help the Chiefs immediately. I expect all three receivers to be available in the middle part of the draft; the question is will they be available when the Chiefs make their pick. If the Chiefs are able to draft one of those receivers, I think it could completely change the look of the Chiefs offense.

The Chiefs have many options with the 28th pick of the draft. I think in the first round they will choose a cornerback, offensive lineman or wide receiver. But,any pick the Chiefs make will add depth to the roster.
