South Side Salutations;Time For The 2016 Season To Start!

As Spring training winds down, we have a better idea of how the 2016 Chicago White Sox are going to look. The White Sox seemed to have gathered themselves and moved on from the Adam Laroche controversy. In just 4 days the 2016 season is going to the start and the Sox seem to have an idea who that team of 25 will be.

Rick Hahn has said  “For whatever the reason, we’ve always been better as the hunter than the RickHahnhunted,  “I don’t know why that is. Certainly, in ’05 we came out of nowhere. Expectations were low for us in ’08. And in ’06 we had a good season, won 90 games but didn’t make the playoffs. Certainly, last year we had high hopes and didn’t meet up to them.”

Last year the Sox expectations where very high after they traded for pitcher pitcher Jeff Samardzija and signed several high-profile free agents, including LaRoche. But the only play-off games in Chicago were on the North Side. Which did not make White Sox fans happy at all. So who is here and who is gone now?

Who is Here- The White Sox traded for All-Star and Home Run Derby Champion Todd Frazier to BrettLawrieWhiteSoxsolidify a longtime weakness at third base and add a big bat to the lineup. The White Sox also brought in infielder Brett Lawrie, upgraded at catcher with Dioner Navarro and Alex Avila, and added pitching depth with Mat Latos and outfield help in Austin Jackson.  Also a surprise that made the team and had a very good spring was Jimmy Rollins who Robin Ventura said is going to be the opening day Shortstop, Tyler Saladino will either play 2nd or be on the bench.

Who is Gone- Samardzija, Laroche, Alexei Ramizez, and Gordon Beckham. Samardzija and Laroche where huge disappointments last year and two of the main reasons this team wasn’t very good last year. With the new faces there is hope that this team will be 10 times better than last year.

Rebounding From Last Year-  The White Sox have a four-time All-Star leading the rotation in AdamEaton2Chris Sale and one of the game’s best sluggers in Jose Abreu along with some solid pieces in Adam Eaton, closer David Robertson and starters Jose Quintana and Carlos Rodon. But they also need some bounce-back seasons from a few players.  Melky Cabrera, one of the big off-season pickups a year ago, needs to get off to a better start, last year he started off with a 277 average. For The Sox to have a better season we need the offense to get off to a better start than last year. Frazier also needs to show his struggles over the second half of last season with Cincinnati are behind him. If Frazier regains his form, he and Abreu could be a formidable combo in the lineup. The White Sox are also counting on him to provide a spark in the clubhouse. The Sox continue to wait for Avisail Garcia to have a breakout season. He struggled in right field and at the plate last year, batting .257 with 13 homers and 59 RBIs, after missing a big part of the 2014 season because of a shoulder injury. We need him as a spark.

I am so ready for the 2016 season to start it is almost here, and hopefully the White Sox will be a fun team to watch!
