Cannon Conversation

Not the usual blog this week due to the International break, so just an update on what’s been happening transfer wise. Back to normal next week.

This week Alisher Usmanov came out in support of Arsene Wenger, somewhat surprisingly as he has been very vocal about the way Arsenal is run and especially Arsenes’ transfer policy in recent years. As Arsenals second largest shareholder with 30.04%, he often comes into conflict with the board and Stan Kronke, frequently stating we need more investment something he is keen to provide. Usmanov has also been refused a seat on the board, so his public declaration of support can be seen two ways: 1. A genuine show of support and solidarity or 2. A clever trick attempted to destabilise the relationship between Kronke and Wenger.

This past week Granit Xhaka has been heavily linked with Arsenal and there’s very little denial coming from any camp. Arsenal will need to replace a number of midfielders this summer with Mathieu Flamini heading for the door, and Tomas Rosicky and Mikel Arteta likely to follow. I will be very excited by this signing (if it happens). Xhaka is a dynamic box to box midfielder who not only can defend, but can offer a lot going forward. The fee being mentioned is 30 million euro plus, but at 23 and already established as a full international and club regular, it’s small change in today’s market.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic… Yes please. Zlatan is available on a free transfer this summer and has made his next destination public, he wants to come to England, and in particular London. The one thing Zlatan would bring above all else is a winners mentality. Yes he’s high maintenance and has the biggest ego in the world of football, but he would have an impact on the squad; like Dennis Bergkamp all those years ago, he would invigorate the squad and send a huge statement to the rest of the league. Dare to Zlatan, Arsene?

Again apologies for the short blog this week, but I have some new things coming up and towards the end of the season I’ll be doing my season review, addressing where we went wrong and what we can do to address those issues. Also I’ll be suggesting who should be sold and who should stay.

Until next week…
