Women’s Wrestling Wrap Up

Welcome to the latest edition of the Women’s Wrestling Wrap-Up, which covers everything that happened in women’s wrestling in the past week, beginning with Monday’s Raw.

lana3Well, actually, the action began on Raw’s pre-show, where Renee Young interviewed Lana, Naomi, and Tamina, before they were interrupted by babyface Divas Natalya, Paige, and Alicia Fox. The heroic trio challenged their evil rivals to a tag team match at WrestleMania, which was later made official. The details were shaky; at first Lana was billed as participating, but once new members Summer Rae and Emma were revealed to be on the heel side, I myself thought that Lana would not be competing. However, it would later be officially announced as a 5-on-5 match, meaning that Lana will make her in-ring debut at WrestleMania next Sunday. It also means that Team Brie will have to find a fifth member, and I see Bayley filling that vacant spot.

Regarding Raw, Charlotte defeated Natalya in a rematch from WWE’s Roadblock special back on March 12. Nothing really special here, just a filler Divas match made to promote the Triple Threat at WM, with Sasha Banks and Becky Lynch on commentary.

mariaand theDollhouseThe following night’s Impact Wrestling saw the end of the Dollhouse, as Maria Kanellis actually gave up her opportunity at the Knockouts Championship and decided to have Jade, Marti Belle, and Rebel all fight each other for that title opportunity. Marti and Rebel actually had reservations against this, but Jade started the match and rolled up Marti for a two count. It was a terrific match by the trio, and in the end, Jade emerged victorious, all while Maria was on commentary, claiming that she did what she did to motivate the now former Dollhouse members.

Wednesday’s NXT saw a double dose of Divas action, as Alexa defeated Sarah “Crazy Mary” Dobson, while the main event featured Asuka defeating Emma in another grudge match. Of course, this was done to put over the upcoming Bayley/Asuka title bout at NXT Takeover: Dallas this Friday, but still, it was a terrific match. Another terrific match was Lucha Underground’s second annual Aztec Warfare, which featured Taya Valkyrie as the only female combatant; she was eliminated by Cage. Thursday’s SmackDown kicked off with Charlotte losing to Sasha Banks, with Becky Lynch on commentary, again promoting the upcoming title bout at WrestleMania.

BriBellaA lot of outside the ring news this past week; the biggest news involving Brie Bella. It was reported that Brie would make up her mind regarding retirement sometime this summer, but with Daniel Bryan’s recent health issues, the story is that Brie will hang up her wrestling boots after next Monday’s post-WM Raw. Obviously, she’ll be part of WrestleMania, but regarding the next night, she’ll want a blow-off match against Lana to end their feud and Brie’s career. Brie will still be featured on E!’s Total Divas.

Supergirl-MaximaDiva fans (such as myself) should mark April 11 on their calendars, because that’s when former three time Divas Champion Eve Torres Gracie will appear on CBS’ Supergirl series. Eve will play villainess Maxima in the episode, “Myriad.” Also, TNA signed Laura Dennis, known as Cherry Bomb on the indy circuit, this past week. Laura Dennis appeared twice on Impact Wrestling in 2013 and in 2015, and competed in last year’s Knockouts Knockdown as well as this year’s taping of the event. All the while, Angelina Love announced that her contract for TNA ran out during her pregnancy, and she is now a free agent. Angelina gave birth to her son with husband Davey Richards on March 17, and she also stated that she’ll return to the ring in June.

A new week begins tomorrow with WrestleMania Week. The final few days before WM, which includes NXT Takeover:  Dallas, and SHIMMER 80, where the first ever Heart of SHIMMER Champion will be crowned. It all ends at WrestleMania 32 in Dallas, TX! Until next week!
