Cavs Corner: Are We Ready?

The NBA play-offs are quickly approaching and even though the Cleveland Cavaliers are looking better than earlier in the season, there is still a lot of work to be done. The number one question still remains. Are they ready for the playoffs? Since coach Tyronn Lue has taken over in January he has stressed a faster paced offense. Since then, the Cavaliers have been averaging five more total points in games. Even with recent shooting woes from players such as Kevin Love and most of the Cavs bench, they are still able to maintain a consistent offense. The biggest issue has been their defense which is ironic because before being promoted, Lue was the Cavaliers defensive coordinator.

If the Cavs see themselves needing to set up an offense, they know what they need to do, it is almost automatic at this point. The last few weeks of the regular season should focus on defensive efforts and getting those easy buckets. If they have fun, don’t give up wide open shots and shut down driving and passing lanes they will get as many points on the other end of the court as they want. Defense will get them through the play-offs, up to the finals. If they face the Golden State Warriors again in the finals, they will have to make minor adjustments to rotate faster and defend the three-point shot. If San Antonio is their opponent, just the high energy defense and fast paced offense should be enough to make it a good series and hoist that trophy at the end.

Cleveland fans are the hardest on their teams and the players seem to understand why. When LeBron came back he wrote a letter to the fans stating that this is going to be a process to win a championship. It wasn’t expected for them the make the finals last year, but was definitely a great experience. We never give up hope in our teams and love to see them get as far as they can go. Even with a very limited amount of time left before the playoffs begin, I believe the Cavs have enough experience on this team and they know what needs to be done and corrected for another long playoff run.image2

There is always this year.
