NBA 5 On 5 3/19

Real quick, let’s talk 5 quick topics going around in the league.

1) New Orleans Pelicans & Anthony Davis

AnthonyDavisThe Pelicans have shut down “The Brow” for the remainder of the season. Reports even say that Davis admitted to playing with a torn labrum during the season which will require surgery, as well as nursing a recent knee injury he suffered in a loss to Portland. The timetable for recovery has been set at a minimum of 5 months. Which also means he will miss the Olympics in Rio. After a 1st round loss to the eventual champion Golden State Warriors, the Pelicans were hoping to pick back up where they left off, but fell way short of expectations being virtually eliminated from the playoffs at this time. Anthony Davis has however put on an outstanding season as he was in the talks for potential league MVP. Davis in 61 games averaged 24 pts 10 rbs and 2 blks.

2) “They Use To Put Stickum On Their Hands”……

A phrase most commonly heard in the famous Madden games, but if you did not hear, Sunday night the Hawks got a taste of Dwight Howard using this substance, and many have now come out to say he has been cheating. It was definitely a weird sequence of events, and if you want to see it for yourself thanks to and youtube:

3) Hawks On Hot Surge

Speaking of the Hawks, take notice that the Hawks have won 10 of their last 12, and have been playing some of the best basketball seen all year in comparison to last seasons January surge. With the emergence of Tim Hardaway Jr., the valuable role play of Kris Humphries, and some improved shooting from Kyle Korver, the Hawks have a chance to solidify the Eastern Conferences’ 3rd seed with a few more wins. Get this, the Hawks are currently 15th in the league in scoring, but now rank 6th in defense. Quite the change in play right? Hey, you have to do, what you have to do in order to win.

4) Utah Jazz Trying to Make a Playoff Push

UtahJazzPlayersSo everyone that read my pre-season power rankings, read that I did not have the Jazz making the playoffs this season. However, they are about to prove to me wrong (as most teams do almost every year), and do something that hasn’t been done since the last days of Williams and Boozer. What they can’t provide in scoring, they most certainly make up in defense. Almost last in scoring but 2nd overall on defense is just fine. Utah has gone 6-4 in their last 10, and are trying to prove they can hang with the best in the West. My question is, how will they fair in a first round match-up against the champs should they qualify?

5) How’s Your Bracket?

I didn’t have too much time to fill one out, but I do see that at this point there aren’t any perfect brackets left. Duke and Kansas remain alive, while Wichita State and Michigan State were sent packing. Do you have any favorites to win it all?

Do you think Dwight is guilty and the league should enforce a policy on “Stickum”, or what about the NBA playoff race?
