The Burgundy Breakdown

Welcome to this week’s edition of The Burgundy Breakdown, which recaps the previous week in the Colorado Avalanche’s season.

The Avs were coming off a devastating home loss to the Nashville Predators, but they made up for that with a home win against Arizona, by a score of 3-1. Next up for the Avs was the final of their four straight home games, this time against the Anaheim Ducks. The last time the two teams met, the Avalanche won 3-0 at the Honda Center in Anaheim. The same outcome occurred this past Wednesday, as the Avalanche’s win moved them back into a playoff position past the Minnesota Wild. However, that win came with a cost, as captain Gabriel Landeskog was hit with a three game suspension after delivering a hit to the head in the third period.jetsVSavs

The Avs’ first game without Landeskog came on Saturday in Winnipeg, the first of a four game Canadian road trip. The Avalanche started strong with two goals in the second after a scoreless period, but the Jets put one in during the second period and scored two more in the third. A late power play chance by the Avalanche fell flat, and the Avs lost 3-2 to the Jets.

At the moment, the Avalanche are tied with the Wild in points (74), but the Wild’s game in hand places the Avalanche out of a playoff position. The Avs’ final meeting with the Wild this season will come on March 26 at home, but regarding this week, the Avalanche will remain in Canada for three more games:  Vancouver on Wednesday, Calgary on Friday, and Edmonton on Sunday.

Until next week!
