South Side Salutations; Spring training’s 1st week!

The White Sox First week of spring training is finished. The players are starting to get back into gear and start this new year off right. Exhibition Games start this week and players are probably excited to get back to playing games against other teams.

AdamEatonSome notes coming out of spring training so far is that Adam Eaton is still recovering from and working his way back from off-season arthroscopic shoulder surgery.  Eaton might see some time at the designated hitter’s spot in the interim, like he did yesterday morning during the teams first inter-squad action.

Carson Fulmer got his first taste of big league action yesterday in an inter-squad game. Even tho it was a small taste, he started for Todd Frazier’s team in the intersquad, He pitched 2 innings allowing one run, on four hits while striking out two batters. Carson Fulmer and Todd Frazier seem excited about the teams first inter-squad game of the year.  “It’s awesome,” said Fulmer,  “Waiting your whole life to do something like that, and I know it’s intra-squad, but for my perspective I definitely don’t look at it that way because of the guys you’ve looked up to, you see play on TV all the time. Being able to get in there and being able to face them is an awesome experience.”  Carson was talking about how he feels great, and that he is still trying to figure things out. Carson Fulmer will get another look on Saturday when the White Sox take on the Kansas City Royals in cactus league play.

Tyler Danish also threw yesterday, going two innings allowing one run, on one hit, and struck out one hitter. John Danks pitches Thursday when the White Sox open up cactus league play, and Jacob Turner gets the start Friday versus the tribe.Brett-Lawrie-White-Sox

Also in that inter-squad game yesterday Todd Frazier singled in his first at-bat, and fellow newcomer Brett Lawrie went 1-2 with an RBI as Team Frazier fell to Team Abreu 5-4 after Daniel Fields hit a game winning three run home run in the bottom of the fifth inning. I am so enjoying as a fan hearing about baseball again I am hoping that this team continues to gel together,

One of my favorite gets of the year was Todd Frazier, and from what I am seeing so far he seems to be growing into the leader we were lacking last year, and I sure hope it carries through the season. Even before the inter-squad game yesterday he said he really liked the directed tone set during White Sox workouts. Frazier also said  “Everybody has a role, everybody is taking accountability for themselves, and it starts right now from Day 1.” Frazier says he sees everyone is focused and everyone is talking in the meetings that they are having.  I hope Frazier is correct about all this intensity, that is what the White Sox were lacking last year along with a leader.  I can’t wait to see what happens more in spring training as we get closer to the season to start.
