50 Shades of Blue

Undefeated, passion returning, form showing! This ladies and gentleman is the Chelsea FC of 2016.

Southampton away was seen as a huge test for the reviving Chelsea.Southampton-Vs-Chelsea

Undefeated since January! Hadn’t conceded a goal since January 13th! This truly was a test for the blues.

Hiddink went for a strong line up but the same one that had started previous games.

Courtois, Baba, Ivanovic, Cahill, Azpi, Mikel, Fabregas, Hazard, Pedro, Willian, Costa.

A mistake from Baba gave Southampton the lead towards the end of the 1st half, and due to this mistake and a general unconfident display Baba was hooked off at half time for Kenedy.

Chelsea were lucky not to go 2-0 down as Cahill slid in dangerously in the area on Austin, but the referee deemed it a good tackle.

Camera angles show Cahill didn’t get the ball but the man.

Chelsea then woke up from their slumber, and goals from Fabregas and Ivanovic gave Chelsea a 2-1 victory and pushed them further up the table to 11th and showed that there is still life in this Chelsea side.untitled

Hiddink clearly has given the Chelsea players a new lease of life, and allowed the boys to play with freedom and express themselves. This new confidence has helped Chelsea be unbeaten in 2016 and given us a real chance to make a charge towards the champions league spots.

It looks like Antonio Conte is going to take over at Chelsea.

Conte’s representatives were in London last week to thrash out a deal and it looks likely that he will be announced the new manager of the Blues.

Personally I am not keen on this one! Conte has a fantastic record in Italy and going unbeaten for a whole season is not to be sniffed at. However I just see him as a less polished Mourinho, and his playing method may not bring the best out of our players. I could be and I hope that I am wrong but I am not confident about it at all.

Ruben Loftus Cheek has signed a new deal to keep him at Chelsea until 2021.

The youngster has flirted with the 1st team despite many calls for him to get more game time.

Hopefully Chelsea will let his talent flourish rather than keep suffocating it. I am a bit baffled as to why they have given him a contract of $60k a week, when there are some established players who perform weekly who are on much less eg Delli Alli.

Is this another case of the board throwing money at a youngster that they wont play but pay him to make sure he stays?

Alexandre Pato is rumoured to be making his debut tonight against Norwich. All however is not well, with Hiddink quoting that Bertrand Traore is now above Pato in the pecking order, and Hiddink is glad its only a loan.

Bizarrely is Hiddink feels this way surely traore will always play from the bench before Pato does? watch this space!

Pit of the Week

Baba’s Error giving Southampton the lead. This could dent his confidence and any confidence that Guus has in playing him.

Beating Southampton away. Such a tough place to go and to come away with the 3 points is a massive deal.chelsea_win_saints_3584799b
