Bucks Beat

As the Milwaukee Bucks returned from a week long All-Star break, they proved that 22 is greater than 23. That is that the 22 Bucks turnovers proved to be greater than the career high tying 23 points from Jabari Parker.

The odd but true math proved true in the Bucks 98-95 loss to the Charlotte Hornets. Parker played a season high 42 minutes while scoring a team high 23 points and recorded his first double double of the season with 11 rebounds. But as great as Parker and Giannis (18 points and 11 rebounds) were they could not overcome the Bucks inability to hang onto the ball. The Bucks fourth quarter ball control issues undid all the positive work of the third quarter. In that fourth quarter the Bucks committed nine of their 22 turnovers. On the night those turnovers turned into 28 Hornets points. This loss opens a critical stretch of the season for the Bucks who are currently 6.5 games out of the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference. The shame is the Bucks poor fourth quarter, and large amount of turnovers, wasted one of the Bucks better third quarters of the season. The Bucks need a string of wins here out of the break and this is not a good start. The Bucks play the Hawks in Atlanta on Saturday night.

Jabari Parker followed his 23 point outing Friday night by upping his career high in a double overtime Bucks victory over the Atlanta Hawks on Saturday night in Atlanta. This time Parker went for 28 points and 13 rebounds. The Bucks needed everything Parker gave them in the 117-109.

greg monroe bucks.widea Greg Monroe added 24 points to the Bucks effort. The Bucks were lucky to leave Atlanta victorious. Three Bucks players missed one of two free throws to close either regulation or the first overtime and Monroe missed a relatively easy lay-up at the end of the first overtime. The second overtime belonged to the Bucks with 23 points in the second extra period. Michael Carter Williams made several key plays late the game for the Bucks with a key block at the end of regulation and he was the energy and offensive force for the Bucks in the second overtime. This is the second time the Bucks have defeated the Hawks this season with a third meeting occurring next month. The Bucks, who have spent large chunks of the season on the road, will now see the schedule turn in their favor with six of the next seven at home beginning Monday night as Kobe Bryant makes his final visit to Wisconsin. The Bucks only road game over the next two weeks will be a Thursday night trip to Boston.

Giannis Antetokounmpo stole the stage from Kobe Bryant on Monday night at the Bradley Center. Bryant was guarding Antetokounmpo for much of his final game in Wisconsin a game that was won by the Bucks 108-101. Antetokounmpo made an impression on Bryant as the Bucks 21 year old rising star reordered his first career triple double posting 27 points, 12 rebounds and ten assists. Bryant mentioned to him that his jumper needs continued but his inside game is much more developed and refined.Giannis&Kobe

Bucks Coach Jason Kidd even gave him some ball handling responsibilities in the second half. The Bucks pulled away in this game in the third quarter outscoring the Lakers 36-17 in the period before the Lakers closed that margin down to make the game respectable in the fourth quarter. Bryant had 15 points on hitting three of 12 shots and eight of nine free throws as several members of both the Badgers and Golden Eagles basketball teams watched Bryant’s final game in Wisconsin. From the Bucks perspective this week is encouraging as the two cornerstones to the Bucks future, Parker and Antetokounmpo each stepped up to help the Bucks win a game this week.
