50 Shades of Blue

Well what a treat the boys served up at the weekend.

Newcastle at times have been our bogey side and we have found it difficult to break them down where as other sides seem to do it at will.

However on Saturday we shot out the blocks and gave the Geordies a 5-1 thumping, and with that it meant we scored more than twice in a league game at home for 2 years.

The starting 11 were:

Courtois,Azpi,Ivanovic,Terry,Cahill,Matic,Fabregas,Willian,Hazard,Pedro,Costa.

I was very surprised to see Pedro in the starting line up, but on the other hand i was excited to see Hazard start.

The goals were scored by Pedro (2), Willian, Costa and a 1st league goal for Traore who came on as a sub.

Chelsea played with freedom and a creative flow, and even though it was Newcastle, to watch us so lethal going forward was a joy to behold.

Cesc Fabregas was back to his best, and sprayed passes around like it was a training session.

Diego Costa was a constant menace and has now netted in every game but 2 since Hiddink became manager.

Matic also managed to put in quite an impressive performance, as did the under fire Pedro with his 2 brilliant finishes and should have had a 3rd.

There were 2 negatives however:

John Terry sustained an injury which will now keep him out of the champions league game against PSG on Tuesday night. This will no doubt lead to Ivanovic wearing the captains armband, but it will give Chelsea some balance at full back, as Azpi will play in his natural position and Baba will play at left back, with Ivanovic moving to center back.

The other negative was that we had a fantastic performance on Saturday by 11 men, and a quite mediocre performance from Eden Hazard.

He seemed slow, sluggish, and lost the ability to take on his man and deliver an assist or a lethal strike. His poor form this season has been well documented. Whilst others have shown a revival under Hiddink, Hazard seems afraid to come out of his slump and what has made matters worse, is that on the eve before a huge game against PSG Hazard announced that he would find it hard to turn them down if they made a bid.

Hazard claimed he wants to play Champions league football and lift the trophy!

Maybe Eden should look at his form and try and help his current team rather than sulking and looking at riches elsewhere!

As I have stated we are next against PSG in the champions league and this will be our toughest test since the departure of Jose. Hiddink has Chelsea 12 unbeaten, but the next game will be tough against the french champions who are running away with the title in their joke of a league.

After PSG there is another tough fixture next weekend against Man City in the FA Cup.

Man City have wobbled lately, suffering 2 defeats at home! So hopefully Chelsea can capitalize on low morale, as it’s the only domestic trophy we can fight for and may boost our confidence as we try to climb up the league and develop on our 12th position.

In Other News.

Charly Musonda the Belgian wizard has played his 2nd game for Betis in La Liga, and scored.

He has now had a superb impact on both games played and is already a fan favorite, which adds to more frustration that he was let go.

Guus Hiddink has stated that next season Chelsea will struggle to sign players as they won’t be playing Champions League. I agree to an extent but any smart player will realize it will only be for 1 season and then the following year could be part of a side that can go on to dominate.

Pit Of The Week:

Losing John Terry for the Champions league game against PSG. Leadership is needed in such a high profile game, and will be interesting to see who will stand up to be counted in such a high profile game.

Peak Of The Week.

Bertrand Traore getting on the score sheet in the league. Bertrand is taking every opportunity offered to him at the moment, and you cant ask any more from a Chelsea Youngster. Hopefully the next manager will let Bertrand carry on getting game time and let his development turn him into the quality player we all hope he can be.

Until Next Week…….KTBFFH
