Women’s Wrestling Wrap-Up

Welcome to the latest edition of the Women’s Wrestling Wrap-Up, which details everything in women’s wrestling in the past week, beginning with Monday’s Raw.DivaTagTeamFastlane

CharloteVSBrieFastlaneThe week began with Becky Lynch defeated by Tamina, and included the announcements of not one, but two Divas matches set for Fastlane. One will see Becky and Sasha Banks going up against Sasha’s former Team BAD cohorts, Tamina and Naomi, while the main Divas match will see Brie Bella challenge Charlotte for the Divas Championship. Brie’s non-title win on February 1 gave her the opportunity, but she was put on a bigger spotlight due to the sudden retirement of her husband, Daniel Bryan, and that, added to what Nikki Bella is going through, has made Brie an immense sympathetic figure. I have a feeling that she may win the title at Fastlane, mainly due to those factors, but it would also give each Bella two reigns.

Tuesday’s Knockouts action on Impact Wrestling was ho-hum, Jade beating Madison Rayne, followed by a Dollhouse attack, and Gail Kim taking them all out. I would say it’s because of the international atmosphere (it was the first of a number of shows taking place in the UK), but I’ve seen much better KO matches during TNA’s past UK tours. I still remember the first ever encounter between Mickie James and Velvet Sky back in 2012, which (IMO) marked the beginning of Mickie’s transformation into a villainess, which officially happened in 2013. Speaking of 2013, Velvet Sky won the Knockouts Championship in the UK in a spectacular four way match. Something needs to change fast in the KO division.BayleyvsCarmella

Wednesday’s NXT was main evented by Bayley vs Carmella for the title, but also included this strangely put together match between Alexa Bliss and Cameron. Regarding the main event, Bayley winning was expected; Nia Jax and Eva Marie going after Carmella post-match wasn’t, so that was a nice addition, as was Asuka getting involved. Also, Lucha Underground featured the debut of Kobra Moon, a victorious one at that! I can’t wait to see more of Kobra Moon, and I hope that this is the beginning of LU building a women’s division; it really needs one!

HavokThursday’s SmackDown saw Sasha Banks defeat Naomi; continuing their build up to the tag team match at Fastlane. Two days later, the women of Women Superstars Uncensored were in action, as they celebrated their 9th anniversary. Among the matches that took place was a high profile bout between former WSU Champions Jessicka Havok and LuFisto, which former TNA Knockouts Champion Havok won. Havok later announced that she’ll compete for Cherry Bomb’s WSU Championship at WrestleCon during WrestleMania Weekend.

A new week begins on Raw and will end at Fastlane with their double dose of Divas action. Regarding the KOs, Gail and Madison will face off against the Dollhouse. Until next week!
