Welcome to the latest edition of the Total Diva Fallout, which recaps the previous episode of Total Divas. This week, a look back at last night’s episode, “Talk of the Town.”
The main storyline of the episode featured Nikki Bella’s aspirations to become a public speaker, after she was hit with a case of stage fright to start the episode. Now, I am discussing this first not only because it was the main storyline, but because I have to voice my thoughts on Brie’s comments to Nikki. Brie said things that I found immensely off-putting, stating that Nikki can’t be considered an inspiration to women if she’s walking around with hair extensions and with her breasts out. In my opinion, that was unnecessary for Brie to say. It basically reeks of elitism. The one thing that I love the most about the Bellas is how different they are. We’ve seen that Brie is more low-key and keeps things simple, while Nikki is flashy and makes herself stand out. What you see is what you get, and I would think that of all people, Brie–whose now retired husband has had to deal with people trying to change him–would understand that concept.
The episode also featured continuation from Mandy’s first appearance on the show last week, as well as bonding with Eva Marie. The seeds of doubt regarding her alliance were planted in the end of last week’s episode, and after running into Nattie, they grew a bit more. Mandy ran into Nattie earlier in the episode, talking about her and Eva Marie calling themselves “Red and Gold,” but Nattie informed Mandy that the experiment was attempted with Eva Marie and former cast member Summer Rae (which was shown in Season Two) but fell flat. Mandy actually went up to Eva Marie with her doubts, telling her about what other Divas have said to her. Mandy’s boyfriend put it in to perspective; she’s new in WWE and chances are that she was being judged in the same way that Eva is, and Eva was the first to befriend her. Mandy could have went about this a better way than just asking about Eva, but at least it worked out for both of them.
Also, it turns out that Alicia Fox’s boyfriend has been lying about his age, claiming to be 45 when he’s actually 50. Wow. The episode has seen Paige and Rosa Mendes helping Alicia out with her relationship, while Paige has also discussed possibly breaking up with Kevin. Hmmm. The plot thickens.
Next week, Rosa’s pregnancy is mentioned, Nattie trains Mandy, and we see the beginning of Nikki’s injury problems. Until then.
