Blackhawks Goalie Scott Darling’s act of kindness goes viral. Twitter user Kane Van Gate shared the story on Sunday, explaining how he got into an Uber driver’s Range Rover in Phoenix with a bunch of hockey equipment. The driver saw his equipment and asked if he knew Darling. The driver went on to say how he once met Darling and how the Blackhawks goalie made an impact on his life. “‘He (Darling) changed my life,’” Van Gate recounts the driver saying. “‘When I picked him up he had a man with him. A man who had been through some tough times.’” Van Gate wrote on Twitter that the cabbie said Darling met the man on the street, took him in the car to a hotel and later paid for the stranger to stay for a month “until he got back on his feet.” The driver also said that Darling paid for the man’s groceries. “‘I never met a man who was so sincere,’” the driver said, according to the post. “I later googled him, found out who he was and now I think hockey is the greatest sport in the world.’” Van Gate’s post does not say when the driver met Darling or if the man with Darling was homeless. But a couple hours after Van Gate shared the story, Darling acknowledged the story. “Just paying it forward,” Darling wrote. “Lucky to be in a position to help.”

The St. Louis Blues are being strongly considered for next year’s Winter Classic at Busch Stadium, with the Blackhawks as their potential opponent. If this is true, it would be the Hawks’ third Winter Classic and fifth outdoor game overall. They hosted the Detroit Red Wings at Wrigley Field in the 2009 Classic, hosted the Pittsburgh Penguins at Soldier Field in a Stadium Series game in 2014, played in last year’s Classic at Washington, and will play a Stadium Series game in Minnesota on February 21st.

The Blackhawks reassigned defenseman Viktor Svedberg to the Rockford Ice Hogs on Sunday. Svedberg has played in 16 games this season with the Hawks, tallying three points. He played 15 games for the team in October and November as he helped the Hawks stay afloat while Duncan Keith recovered from knee surgery. Svedberg was called up again last week to replace the injured Michal Rozsival.
