Up Next: The Waste Management Openimgres-1
This week is one of the most fun weeks of the whole year in golf. The Waste Management Open is many fans favorite non-major tournament of the year. It has a stadium hole, the largest crowds of any tournament all year, and it is considered the first full tournament of the year. That’s right, now the PGA Tour is in full swing. TPC Scottsdale Stadium Course plays host to the Waste Management open. There are some really great holes at the Stadium course including a drivable par four 17th and of course the par three 16th stadium hole for which the course in named. Stretching out to 7400 yards, this is a long course but one that is fair as well. Scores should be low with the very mild conditions experienced in the golf “Mecca” that is Scottsdale, Arizona.

Who’s Playing?

There are a lot of fan favorites playing this week. The field should yield for a very exciting weekend with many storylines. Some exciting groups to follow on Thursday and Friday include pairings of FedExCup points leader Kevin Kisner, Smylie Kaufman, and fan favorite Ricky Fowler; recent winner Jason Dufner, major champion Zach Johnson, and ASU grad Phil Mickelson; and major champion Bubba Watson paired with two up and coming stars in Justin Thomas and defending champion Brooks Koepka. The field rounds out with Brandt Snedeker, J.B. Holmes, Ryan Moore, Webb Simpson, Keegan Bradley, Kevin Na, Hideki Matsuyama, and Steve Stricker.

Pick To Click:imgres-2

It would be easy to pick past champions like Brooks Koepka or Phil Mickelson who are both off to good starts in 2016 but I’m going to pick another player with a hot start. Ricky Fowler is my pick to click this week. He recently beat out both Jordan Spieth and Rory McIlroy in the Abu Dhabi Championship overseas and missed the cut at Torrey Pines last week so he will have plenty of motivation to come back this week and put up a number in the -20 range. It should be a tournament where the winner needs to go really low and Ricky is sure capable of doing that. And, it would give me an excuse to talk about his hightop shoes and joggers that he’s rocking in 2016…not a good look in my opinion, but that’s Ricky. Should be a fun week none the less, be sure to tune in.
