The Minnesota Twins had a kind of Cinderella story last year, new manager Paul Molitor took the helm and the first month of the season the Twins were on the bottom steps of the standings in the A. L. Central but then magic came and the Twins went all the way to the top even overtaking the dominate Kansas City Royals for a short time, but then we all know what happened with the Royals. But the Twins were just a few games back from a wild card position and had a cement seat in the 2nd place in the difficult A.L Central Division. This year there are some significant changes. Tori Hunter 5 time all star, 19 year veteran has hung up his playing cleats. The Twins signed during the off-season Korean player, Byung Ho Park, he will be the new DH. He brings a .341 AVG and a .951 OSP (On Base Plus Slugging) he hit 105 homers and 270 RBI’s in two seasons in Korea. While he has never been a DH he is looking forward to the opportunity.

Here is what the team looks like now.

The Twins went from having a 19 year veteran in the outfield to having a very young and inexperienced outfield, in the hard hitting A.L division this is going to hurt the Twins. Kyle Gibson carried the team and Phil Hughes and Ervin Santana need to simply perform better. The starters collective E.R. A is 3.85 and the relief is not much better with 3.51. The Twins also lack experienced depth and while the infield is taken care of the outfield is going to be struggling. The Twins are going to need more than Park’s since the team had a collective .233 AVG. While Park is excited to play DH this is a new role for him and I would expect some growing pains as he learns his way around the plate in this manner. If the Twins want to win it, it is going to take more than what they have on this team.
