Up Next: The Farmers Insurance Open14

The Farmers, much like the Career Builder is played on multiple courses. This week, the PGA Tour heads to the Torrey Pines North and South Courses. These are destination courses just because of the name, in my opinion. When you look at the layouts they appear very boring. Long, narrow, fairly flat, and for the most part straight. South appears to be the harder of the two so look for anyone on the North Course Thursday to come away with an early lead and then give it right back when they hit the South Course Friday. The North stretches only 6,915 yards while the South plays a whopping 7,628 yards. Pretty easy to tell why the weekend is played on the South course. Historically Tiger Woods has owned this course with 7 wins here, his last in 2013. Expect many Tiger highlights during downtime in the broadcast (I can’t wait).

Who’s Playing?

We’re finally starting to see a few more names that the average fan will recognize, which is undoubtedly good for golf. This week and on it will be hard to pick a clear cut winner or even a favorite. Some big names include a Fabian Gomez, Dustin Johnson, and Brandt Snedeker pairing; Justin Rose, Jimmy Walker, and Phil Mickelson pairing; Rickie Fowler, Patrick Reed, and Hideki Matsuyama pairing; and names like Bill Haas, Keegan Bradley, Nick Watney, Jason Day, and Billy Horschel. Still no Jordan Spieth but this is clearly the best full-field event of the year so far.

Picks to Click:

This is the hardest one I’ve had to pick so far this year, and with very little luck so far, imgres-1I’m going to go with a hot-hand, popular pick with Brandt Snedeker. He’s been playing very well so far this year and his pop-putting stroke has been very successful on these bent grass greens with poa annua sprinkled in. This makes them look spotty on the broadcast but this comes from the close proximity of the Pacific Ocean, we’ll see them again in 2 weeks at Pebble Beach as well. Brandt finished second twice and won in 2012. Other choices would be Bill Haas, Phil Mickelson who had a great showing last week at PGA West, and Jason Day who finished second in 2014.
