50 Shades of Blue

Well after my 1st article, quite alot has happened with the blue army.Let me start with this weekends fantastic result over at arsenal. Hiddink didn’t spring any surprises with his starting line up,

GK – Courtois

RB – Ivanovic

LB – Azpilicueta

CB – Zouma

CB – Terry

CM – Mikel

CM – Matic

LM – Oscar

RM – Willian

AM – Fabregas

ST – Costa

Subs – Rahmann, Begovic, Cahill, Traore, Remy, Loftus-Cheek, Hazard.

With Hazard now returning back to the squad, many thought he would get a start but Hiddink thought other wise. After Pedros recent embarrassing performances, he was rightly left out. The match started with Chelsea firing on all cylinders and not with the usual ‘Park the bus’ method that has been effective at the Emirates.

mertesacker red cardNot long into the 1st half, Willian played a superb through ball to Costa who left Mertesacker looking like he was running through treacle. Mertesacker slid in on Costa and although no contact was made, the tackle gave Costa the chance to go down and forced the ref to give the red card putting arsenal down to 10 men. With the recent luck Chelsea have had with referees it was nice for once that something went in our favor. Chelsea immediately went for the kill, and the rejuvenated Ivanovic put in a nice cross for Costa to slide home his 6th goal in 6 games!

I, as did many other Chelsea fans expected us then to put Arsenal to the sword, but we were left to be disappointed on that expectation. Chelsea labored to a 1-0 win and were lucky to not concede. The defense held out well and Fabregas put in a man of the match performance and was unlucky not to get a penalty. Fabregas is fa. Chelsea survived a late onslaught from Arsenal and managed to take the 3 points and climb further up the league into 13th position.

A late cameo from Hazard gave the fans even more to cheer about.

costa scoresThe result apart, the performance was quite poor, yes we kept a clean sheet away from home and got the 3 points but Arsenal had 10 men and looked vulnerable. Plus, too many players were having a stroll around the pitch rather than having a killer instinct and sending out a message that we are back with the biggest culprit being Remy. The boy has usually got me on his side and i think on the regular “why doesn’t he get a chance.”

Half hour to go in the game and Costa gets injured. This is it Remy this is your chance to shine against 10 men Arsenal. But no, Remy didn’t read the script!! Twice he was put through on goal, and twice he messed up, one of those times he didn’t even sprint towards goal with any conviction!

At that moment I realised why he has been sitting on the bench! When your chances are limited, you need to make the manager take notice of you when your chance to shine comes, and Remy only confirmed to everyone why he doesn’t get picked!

Kurt-Zouma-ChelseaOn a positive note, Kurt Zouma showed again he is maturing into the complete defender, and if Everton rate, error prone John Stones at $50 million, then goodness knows what Zouma is worth. He has pace, power, great in the air, and playing alongside Terry he is now starting to read the game and smell danger. Unfortunately there wasn’t any action for the youngsters, but when the ‘1st team’ aren’t killing off the opposition, it wasn’t really a game to introduce the youth.

Up next is an away game in the FA cup against MK Dons, who are sitting lowly in the Championship.Hopefully the likes of Rahmann, and Loftus-Cheek will get some well needed minutes.

In other Chelsea news

Is Pato coming is he staying? Quite frankly I am frustrated by this move, Pato is a man who had his time and injury stole it! going out to buy another foreign player who has to adapt to the league, is a kick in the face to our home grown talent Patrick Bamford who has been out on loan, scored goals yet can’t get a game for Chelsea (clearly we didn’t learn from what happened with Lukaku).

Ramires+Chelsea+v+Everton+FA+Cup+4th+Round+ciPvK-L63_RlAs I write this I am hearing, that industrious midfielder Ramires has agreed a deal to go to china for a fee of $25 million. That deal has come out of nowhere, and I would like to say thank you to Ramires for all you have done for the club. he may well be the most ungifted Brazilian footballer, but what he didn’t have in technique, he made up for with energy and a tireless work ethic, and to get $25 million for him I guess was hard to refuse.

The Alex Teixeira deal seems dead in the water as Liverpool have raced into pole position for his services, and a deal looks imminent.

Lastly Loic Remy has asked for a loan deal, realising actually he hasn’t got the work ethic to make it at Chelsea

Pit of the week: Remy poor showing after coming on as a sub for Costa in a must win game.

Peak of the week: Defeating arsenal at their ground to stay undefeated since Hiddink became boss.

Ps. Any thoughts on what Mourinho is thinking right about now?

Until next week…….
