Bucks Win Streak Reaches Three

The Milwaukee Bucks won for the third consecutive game and fifth in their last seven on Tuesday night defeating the Miami Heat 91-79 at the American Airlines Arena.

MiddletonJerseyKhris Middleton again led the Bucks with a solid 22 point effort equaling the number on his jersey. Middleton has been an offensive force and leader for the Bucks for well over a month. What is key is the fact that Middleton is knocking his shots down. What is also important is that his teammates are realizing that he needs the ball in order to get his shots up and they are getting him the ball in good positions to score. They know what shots he is comfortable with and they are working to get those shots for him.

The Bucks defense was outstanding tonight as well. They held the Heat to 36.5% shooting. Individually the Bucks did a good job specifically on the Heat starting backcourt holding them to 1 for 12 shooting. Dwyane Wade and fellow back court mate Tyler Johnson combined to score five points. It was only the third time in Wade’s 973 game career when he played at least 20 minutes that he did not score more than two points. The Heat were missing four injured players including their top two point guards.

The Bucks did what they are supposed to do with a team that has had a hectic schedule and is dealing with injury problems. The Bucks came out and did a good job of clamping down on defense and making the Heat work hard. Also the Bucks did a good job of injecting pace and tempo into the game. The Heat have an older roster and they play at the second slowest pace in the league. By contrast the Bucks have a younger roster with fresher legs. The Bucks turned the tempo and pace to this game up and they turned it into a disadvantage for the Heat in the second and third quarters.BucksVSheat

Another area the Bucks were impressive with tonight were how they closed quarters. The Bucks were down one mid-way thru the second quarter but they closed the quarter with an 18-7 run to take a ten point lead to the locker room. The Bucks continued the strong play in the third quarter outscoring the Heat 26-18. Seeing the Bucks close and open a quarter strong is encouraging as that has been an issue all season.

DWadestrippedofBallThe Bucks appear to be getting their season together. They are still well under 500 and even further out of the playoff picture but they have now won three consecutive games and five of seven overall. Also down the line they will be looking at a good number of home games. The Bucks have currently played six more road games than home games and by the end of the trip they will have played eight more home games than road games. Once the Bucks get past the All-Star game they will be having a lot of home games. Given that and the fact that the Bucks are playing better, there might still be hope towards the Bucks being able to grab a play-off spot this season. The Bucks will conclude their road trip with games on Friday and Saturday night in Houston and New Orleans.
