The Blackhawks keep getting better. They are defending Stanley Cup champions, they’ve been champions three times in the past six years, and now they set a franchise record. On Tuesday night, the Blackhawks won their 12th consecutive game by defeating the Nashville Predators 4-1. They have now won more games in a row than any other team in Blackhawks history and are starting to close in on the longest winning streak in NHL history. After that win, they are just five away from matching the 1992-1993 Pittsburgh Penguins for the longest winning streak in league history.

Patrick Kane was named the first star of the week for the second time this season in the NHL’s weekly Three Stars of the Week. He also matched his NHL career-high for goals in a season when he scored No. 30 on Tuesday against Nashville. Kane beat Nashville goalie Pekka Rinne on a breakaway at 4:08 of the second period to give the Blackhawks a 3-1 lead. The goal came in their 49th game. Kane scored 30 goals in 82 games in 2009-2010, his third NHL season. He is the first player to reach 30 goals this season. Kane had an assist on Anisimov’s first-period goal, his 71 points lead the NHL.

With his demotion, which comes after he was placed on waivers last week, $950,000 of Bickell’s $4 million salary cap hit will come off the books, but a little over $3 million will remain on the team’s salary cap number. Bickell was often scratched from the lineup in recent weeks and his demotion will likely mean more consistent playing time than he would get at the NHL level.
