PSgolf-pgaWestStatium14HoleNext Up: The CareerBuilder Challenge

Set at the base of the beautiful mountains in La Quinta, California, PGA West is the host of the CareerBuilder Challenge in 2016. It is a Pete Dye design so expect what you always expect with Dye designs, absolute chaos. 17 is very similar to the famous island green at TPC Sawgrass along with a water filled finishing hole that is 18. This is no walk in the park for the boys this week. The Stadium Course (1 of 6 courses on the property) stretches a menacing 7,266 yards, much different than the Hawiian courses they have been playing the last few weeks. The longest hole on the course is a 617 yard par 5 eleventh hole. The shortest being a 168 yard par 3 17th, but with an island green this is much more difficult than your average 168 yard par 3. Along with the length and windy fairways, the course is visually intimidating off each tee.

Who’s Playing?:

The biggest name in the field this weekend with be Phil Mickelson. He brings a large and loud gallery no matter where he plays. He starts the week playing alongside Charley Hoffman. Other notables include Zach Johnson, Bill Haas, Patrick Reed, Jason Dufner Billy Horschel, Francesco Molinari, Matt Kuchar and Steve Stricker in and interesting match-up of similar styles, and crowd favorites Boo Weekley and Pat Perez.

An interesting note, across the pond, Rory Mcilroy, Jordan Spieth, and Ricky Fowler are paired together in the Abu Dhabi Golf Championship. The best match-up of the week by far, this one is worth staying up for late Wednesday and Thursday night.

Picks to Click:imgres

My pick to click this week is Patrick Reed. Coming off a nice showing in Hawaii dueling with Jordan Spieth I think Reed is due for his turn atop the leader board. He won in 2014 and has been playing really well ever since. Many are picking him to have a break out year on the PGA Tour. Others to keep you eye on are Bill Haas (last years champion), Charley Hoffman, Pat Perez, Billy Horschel, and a very young Tony Finau poised for a breakout year.
