50 Shades of Blue

So here it is, my 1st of many weekly articles!

As a Chelsea fan I find it easy to write about the club I love and with so much happening right now, there wont ever be a dull  moment with my Club.

I am a huge football fan in general so no opinions will be biased.

Lets start with the recent game, which was on Saturday 16th January

guus-hiddinkGuus Hiddink looking to extend his unbeaten run since rejoining Chelsea, had a tough task facing an inform Everton side.

In the reverse fixture in September, everton gave us a 3-1 hiding, with steven Naismith having his customary good game against Chelsea and bagging a hat – trick.

Chelsea since then have lost Jose, and found a new confidence that still needs to be polished round the edges.

Hiddink went for the same line up that has started recently

GK – Courtoischelsea-fc-logo-wallpapers 03

RB – Ivanovic

CB – Terry

CB – Zouma

LB – Azpilicueta

CM – Mikel

CM – Matic

RM – Willian

LM – Pedro

AM – Fabregas

ST – Costa

Subs, Rahmann, Begovic, Loftus – Cheek, Kenedy, Oscar, Cahill, Remy.

JohnTerry2Chelsea drew 3-3 after going 2-0 down, we clawed it back with goals from Fabregas and Costa (who now has 6 in 6 since Mourinho left) and after Everton took a 3-2 lead, Chelsea got a last gasp winner with an offside goal from our leader and legend John Terry.

The fans will look at the game as a point won, especially with how our season has gone, this was a potential banana skin.

Plus, with Arsenal up next, I will definitely see it as a point won, as I think Hiddink’s undefeated streak will come to an end against Arsenal. The result leaves us 14th in the league and far away currently from any respectable league position for a club of our stature.

What stood out for me in this game were 2 things!

  1. Matic poor form. I am a huge fan of the Serbian wrecking machine, but the last few months have been the worst for him. he seems sloppy in possession and those bursting runs with the ball have disappeared from him that highlighted how much a threat Chelsea became once Matic left the pitch. Chelsea had a bounce about there play (excuse the pun) and seemed slicker and more fluent. I fear if his form is not found soon he will either be sold or have a lengthy time on the bench counting splinters.

Hiddink using Mourinho Blue print. Yes the manager has changed and we are undefeated, but everything still seems Mourinho. The formation and the team selection seem just as frustrating as under the Mourinho era! Playing Pedro seems a pointless act at the moment. Although he did have a 98% pass completion but none of those passes caused any danger! Kenedy who has been sitting on the pitch has shown much more production when on the pitch, so it is a huge wonder why Hiddink still plays Pedro which makes me think again the youngsters of the squad are being over looked despite poor performances from the seniors.
Take a look at Loftus-Cheek, since his 1st goal for us, he has seen no game time which will only dent any confidence the young man built up.
Against Arsenal on Sunday we will need to be at our best as the teams below us in the league are picking up points, luckily most of them play each other at the weekend, but we really need to create some daylight between us and the other relegation candidates. If Hiddink picks the right starting 11, I can see us leaving the Emirate stadium with all 3 points.olaAina

In other news, Highly rated young defend Ola Aina has refused to sign a contract, due to no chance being given to youngsters (can we blame him?). Arsenal currently look his preferred destination Falcao is out for 2 months minimum with a thigh injury

Shakhtar Donetsk have told Chelsea they will need to stump up 30 Million if they wish to sign goal machine Alex Teixeira.

I have left a full rant until I have found my feet in the sports writing world, but things will get fiery as the season continues.
