A.L. Predictions #1 Texas Rangers

I am putting all fandom aside for this. When I was asked to make predictions for the next season, I went back and forth with some of the teams but I always knew who would be on top. The Texas Rangers.RangersLogo

The Texas Rangers reminded me of the Royals the year they lost the world series. Hungry is the word that comes to mind when you get that close it gnaws at you and I saw something come alive in our team.  There were changes in the off-season. Most of the team is still intact, with exception to Leonys Martin who with Anthony Bass were traded to the Seattle Mariners for OF James Jones while Pitchers Tom Wihelmsen, Patrick Kivlehan, and Yovani Gallardo chose to become  free agents.

dougBrocialThe core of the Rangers is still intact and normally I am not all that excited about changes in coaching staff, but there was a change in the coaching staff that well it just knocked my socks off, Pitching Coach Mike Maddox ( yes, Greg Maddox’s brother) is out and in his place is Doug Brocail. This is where my love of the minor leagues really comes into play. Doug was the pitching coach for the Corpus Christi Hooks, who is the Double A affiliate of the Houston Astros, a little name drop for you Lance McCullers who came up from Double A twice. Brocail brings not only coaching experience but pitching experience as well, he played two season for the Rangers as a reliever and I think there is a certain expertise that Brocail can bring to this pitching staff. Along with Manger of the Year Jeff Bannister, this alone make me excited for the team. Speaking of the team, let’s be honest if it’s not broke don’t fix it. We have the pitching, we have the hitting and now we have the hunger for a championship.

What will the team look like:

It’s a new year and those who were injured are coming back refreshed like Josh Hamilton and Adrian Beltre. Those who were having trouble coming back like Derek Holland will have Spring Training to get back into rhythm. Colby Lewis has not finalized his one year deal with the Rangers but he will. Darvish will be back in May and look how far the Rangers got without him, with him back he is going to bring even more heat to the starting lineup. Jeff Bannister has his coaching staff the way he wants it. To address the trade rumors if we get Justin Upton or not the Rangers are ready to play some serious baseball.
