Boxings 1-2 KO Punches

billy joe saunders1) Billy ” Joe” Saunders told the worlds number one ranked middleweight Gennady Golovkin that he wants a better deal, if he wants to fight him in the United States. The WBA and IBF champion Golovkin made an offer to Saunders team last week of $2.2 million dollars. If the two fighters meet up this will be a unification fight for 3 middle weight world titles.  Saunders (23-0, 12 ko) 26, won the WBO belt from Andy Lee after knocking him down two times in the third round, and eventually getting the unanimous decision last month.

Golovkin (34-0, 31 ko) is on a mission  to hold all four World title belts and he can do that by fighting Saunders and then fighting WBC champion Canelo Alvarez later this year. Saunders though will not fight in the states unless he gets the increase in pay that he is looking for from this big potential fight.

“An offer has been made but people need to understand I don’t have a loss on my record and it’s not like Golovkin’s last opponent David Lemieux who had lost twice before he fought him,” Saunders told ESPN.”I believe I’m a better champion than Lemieux was so I deserve more. They [Golovkin’s team] are not chucking peanuts around but I’m not going in there just to pick the money up. If I take the fight with Golovkin I genuinely believe I could beat him but they have got to put some proper money on the table and if they do that then I will do it. I could earn that money against someone else. They are offering life changing money but it’s not just about that because it would be a big risk for me.”

GennadyGolovkin“Now I’m world champion I’ve got options and I could make my money elsewhere. Most definitely the fight with Golovkin will happen at some point, most definitely. He wants to fight me because he wants to unify all the belts.”  Saunders (23-0, 12ko) is confident that the fight will happen. He is not sure yet if it will be his next fight though.”I’m not ruling out fighting Golovkin next, I’ve got to talk to my manager and Frank Warren about it,” Saunders said. “I will fight him but I would like it to be in England and if they can do that I would take a bit less, but they have to give me something. His promoter is due to speak to K2 promotions who represents Golovkin.

Leo-Santa-Cruz_Fukuda2) Former bantamweight, junior featherweight and current featherweight champion Leo Santa Cruz (31-0,17 KOs) will likely face Kiko Martinez (35-6, 26 Kos). The Santa Cruz fight will most likely take place in late February or March. The location for the bout will be in Los Angles. Cruz, who is 27, is coming off a big victory against Abner Mares in what was a classic bout in the Staples Center. Martinez, 29 of Spain, is coming off three straight victories against low level competition. Before his three fight winning streak he was knocked out by titlist Scott Quigg in the second round. Martinez will be a heavy underdog, especially since  Santa Cruz will be his most skilled opponent he has faced ever.

And that is your Boxing 1-2 punch for this week!
