Conor McGregor vs. Rafael dos Anjos to Headline UFC 197
UFC 197 will be a big one. With McGregor vs. dos Anjos headlining and Holly Holm vs. Miesha Tate as the co-main event it could be one of the biggest cards in UFC history.
This will be the UFC’s first true super fight since 2009 when BJ Penn took on Georges St. Pierre at UFC 94. That fight turned out really well for the UFC with more than a $4 million gate and over 900,000 pay-per-view buys. You can only imagine how this card will do as two of the UFC’s biggest stars will be fighting and McGregor will look to be the first dual weight champion in UFC history.
Cowboy Cerrone to Fight at Welterweight
Cowboy Cerrone will be moving up in weight to take on Tim Means. After his loss to RDA in the first round of his title shot in December, Cowboy’s future at lightweight seems somewhat hopeless. He’s already been beaten by most of the top contenders at lightweight, so a move up makes sense, however it is unknown if this move is permanent. To me, it makes sense for Cowboy because he can start fresh and he can also avoid cutting a ton of weight for the fight.
Nick Diaz Settlememt on NSAC Agenda
It seems the NSAC has finally come to its senses on this issue. Nick Diaz was outrageously suspended for five years and fined $165k for a positive test for weed.
This ruling has caused a lot of backlash from the fans and from some fighters. It is silly that they came down harder on Diaz for weed than they do on guys who take steroids. The settlement that has been reported is that his ban will get reduced to 18 months, making him eligible to fight again in 5 months.
