Women’s Wrestling Wrap-Up

Welcome to the latest edition of the Women’s Wrestling Wrap-Up, which covers everything in women’s wrestling in the past week, beginning with Monday’s Raw.

sashaBanksIt was mostly an uneventful week for the WWE Divas, with Raw seeing Becky Lynch face off against Sasha Banks in singles action. I say mostly uneventful because Charlotte was not at Raw in Brooklyn due to participating at a live event in Allentown, PA, so the continuation of the Heel Charlotte/ Conflicted Becky angle was at a standstill. Of course Sasha won her match, setting the tone for how her 2016 will go. The BOSS holding the Divas Championship in 2016 is not a question of “If?”, but “When?”

NaomiOf course, Sasha’s Team BAD cohorts, Naomi and Tamina aren’t getting much steam, as they were on SmackDown on New Year’s Eve losing to Brie Bella and Alicia Fox. Now, I long gave up on Tamina ever getting a push, but I thought for sure that they would elevate Naomi. We all remember the evening of April 13 in the UK, when Naomi made her long overdue villainous turn and attacked Paige after she eliminated her to win a #1 Contender’s Battle Royal. Many, myself included, thought that this would be the thing that gets Naomi the Divas Championship, but even a heel turn has not led to a title push for her. Instead, Naomi and Tamina are playing second and third fiddle to Sasha, and have been since they got together. 2016 better treat Naomi right, otherwise I give up.

That was basically it for the week, but I must mention the Knockouts. The KO match for the first Impact of 2016 was announced tonight, and on the program’s first show on Pop TV, it will see the rivalry between the Beautiful People and the Dollhouse continue, as Angelina Love, Velvet Sky, and Madison Rayne will compete against Rebel, Jade, and Marti Bell. At least that’s what’s advertised. In actuality, Angelina is still expecting her first child with her fiancee Davey Richards, so her being advertised to compete on live TV seems odd. I would think that this would be remedied somehow.

A new week begins today with the first Raw of 2016, and we’ll see the continuation of the Charlotte/Becky angle, as well as the Impact’s debut on Pop TV! Until next week!
