Gronk teaming with WWE?

For those of you who watched Smackdown on Friday night you saw New England Patriot Tight End Rob Gronkowski was in attendance at Tuesday’s WWE live event in Providence. According to multiple sources, Gronk is strongly considering purchasing a WWE  Tapout gym (when the gyms launch) in the Buffalo, NY area, where he is from.gronk3

WWE is making a substantial investment in Tapout in order to create new revenue streams through the sale of fitness apparel and merchandise, but also by launching Tapout Fitness Centers across the country.

The gyms, which will enter into a competitive space already staked out by the likes of 24 Hour Fitness, Bally Total Fitness and Gold’s Gym, are expected to open in Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Phoenix, Portland, Brooklyn, Houston and other markets. Buffalo New York, could be one of those other markets.

gronk4No word on when the centers will open or even officially be announced, but part of the marketing plan is to use WWE performers as a draw to get customers in the door. And it’s rumored to be for more than just appearances and autograph signings. When the company has live events in the area, or by using talent who live near a Tapout gym, wrestlers will workout at the facility and even teach classes.

So would the ability of having an aerobic workout with Niki Bella get you to come to a gym? How about a chest day with John Cena? Maybe a spin class with Dolph Ziegler? O possibly a motivational Zumba class with New Day? Which ever you would choose, WWE would seem to have the star power to get you into the doors. And if they also get the added star power from other athletes the like of a Gronk, then they may have a solid investment on their hands. We will see if this venture is like WrestleMania, or the XFL soon enough.
