A Look Ahead: TNA in 2016

impactDebutWe are now officially less than a week away from Impact Wrestling’s debut on Pop TV, which will take place on January 5. Impact’s last two episodes were a look back at 2015, but the official debut that will see TNA back in action will happen this upcoming Tuesday. Of course, 2015 was a terrific year in TNA, with the huge rise of EC3 as he became TNA World Heavyweight Champion, The Wolves continued to dominate the tag team division, and Taryn Terrell took a villainous path to extend her Knockouts Championship reign. So what can we expect for 2016?

First off, let’s just get down to it and start with the main event scene and the World Title. Clearly, the finals of the World Title Series will be between Matt Hardy and EC3, and I would think that Matt would get the title and finally get the true reign that was denied him after Bound For Glory. If that’s the case, then I can definitely see Hardy in high profile feuds with Eric Young or even Eli Drake (more on him later). However, let’s not forget: Tyrus won a title opportunity at Bound For Glory when he won a battle royal. So with that factor, TNA could have EC3 win the title again, but then Tyrus turns against EC3 and takes the title from him on a later date. Oh, the possibilities.

DrewGallowayHow will 2016 fare for Drew Galloway? If 2015 is a sign of the times, then I would think that 2016 would see Drew heavily pushed. Drew is an ex-WWE talent, and we all know how TNA just loves to push guys (and girls) who just got out of WWE. It’s part of a tit-for-tat between the two promotions that has been going on for almost a decade. They don’t get a good push in WWE, so TNA heavily elevates them. Drew Galloway will be no different. It already started this year. He may not have won a title yet, but Drew is definitely on his way to being an outright main eventer. I see him holding the World Title by the early summer of 2016.

Back to Eli Drake. I’ve been a fan of Eli Drake since his days in Championship Wrestling From Hollywood as Shaun Ricker, back when he was the last to serve under the tutelage of the late, great Percy Pringle III. I was elated when Eli debuted in TNA, even more so when he turned heel, because I knew he would bring his same catchphrases from CWFH to TNA:  “dummies” and “Let me talk to ya.” I seriously see him holding a title in 2016, but not a World Title, not yet. I could see Eli holding the King of the Mountain Championship, which is TNA’s equivalent of WWE’s Intercontinental Championship.

VskyAs for the Knockouts, I’ve made my predictions on them, but I’m going to go further on one prediction I made regarding Velvet Sky. I stated in an earlier article that I see Velvet Sky turning heel in 2016. I’m going to go further and say that Velvet will turn heel this upcoming Tuesday when Impact Wrestling debuts on Pop. 2015 saw Velvet reunite The Beautiful People once again with Angelina Love and Madison Rayne, but let’s face facts, Velvet returned to TNA back in May for one reason: to become Knockouts Champion. Unfortunately for Velvet, she’s been pushed to the side due to the World Title Series, and even worse for her, she was not one of the four KOs who participated in the WTS. That will definitely serve as motivation for Velvet to become a villainess hellbent on taking back what she would feels is her position on top of the KO Division. And if she does turn, the evil Velvet should feud with Gail and capture her third Knockouts Championship.

So those are my predictions for TNA in 2016! Should be another fantastic year!
