Hawks Get A Bounce Back Win Vs. Rockets

Horford-499x350It seemed all but impossible. Down by 19 points at one point it just looked like the Hawks were not gaining ground on a Rockets team trying to establish a true identity. With a gust of turnovers that led into fast break points, and key buckets from the starters to the role players, 19 turned into 10, 10 into 5. 5 then turned into a tie game, which then turned into a 6 point win Tuesday night 121-115.

Al Horford led the Hawks with a stellar 30 points and 14 boards, while Paul Millsap and Jeff Teague chipped in 22 a piece. Kent Bazemore looked good as well adding 26 points and 4 assists. The Kyle Korver struggle from 3 continued with him going 0-10 from beyond the arc. He only had 2 points in a night where he wasn’t needed in the end, but still, being able to convert at least half of those probably could have made the difference in the deficit. After all, Atlanta shot 34 percent from beyond the arc to Houstons’ 55 percent. Once again though, the intangibles: 16 fast break points, 50 points in the paint (+4 to Houston) and 10 more offensive rebounds which lead to many second chance buckets.

Free Throw Percentage anyone? Atlanta-84, Houston 66.

As for the 16-17 Rockets, Dwight Howard led the pack with 30 points and 16 rebounds. James Harden also had a double-double with 26 points and 10 boards, and even the young Clint Capela made his bones getting 17 and 10. In a nutshell as it sounds, the Rockets gave the game away without question. Silly turnovers, taking plays off, and a barrage of comeback assaults from the Hawks was too much to hold them back. Houston still sits in 7th however in front of a Jazz team holding their ground as well.

The second place Hawks have a couple days rest until Sunday where they start a back-to-back with the 15-18 New York “Knickerbockers”.
