Atlanta Hawks Edge Underman Trailblazers.

It took more than expected, but it was done, as the Hawks beat the Blazers Monday Night 106-97. As crazy as it sounds, Portland Star Damian Lillard missed the first game of his career with Plantar Fasciitis. Second leading scorer C.J. McCollum was also out, which meant for the Hawks, would essentially start with a 44 point lead before the tip-off.atlantaVSportland

However, as much as the bench has been cracked on in years past, last night they proved valuable. Maurice Harkless added 14 points, Along with Gerald Henderson chipping in 14, and the UNC product Ed Davis added 8. Besides Allen Crabbe led the way for Portland with 19 points, and Mason Plumlee had a Double-Double with 11 points and 10 rebounds.

atlantaplayerWhere the Hawks managed to thrive was keeping the turnovers to a minimum only coughing up the ball 10 times. Portland was not so fortunate, giving away 19 possessions. Scoring wise it was pretty even among everyone. Kent Bazemore and Paul Millsap had 12 apiece, and Jeff Teague adding 13. While Dennis Schroeder had the night of his life scoring 18 points and shooting 3-4 from beyond the arc, Al Horford had a weird night only notching 6 points on 3-9 from the field and 0-2 from 3 point land. With this win, the Hawks continue to climb the standings with an 18-12 record, and a 4 game win streak, and 3rd seed seat, in the Eastern Conference. Remember, that the Hawks a little over a week ago, sat in 9th place, and a plate filled with more questions than answers.

The Hawks will face the Detroit Pistons (16-12) again on Wednesday night, and get a shot to repay the team that not only sent them on an 8 game win streak at the start of the season, but handed them their first loss of the season on opening night back in October.
