Bucks Break Warriors Historic Win Streak

24-1The Golden State Warriors entered the Bradley Center with a 24-0 record on the season and a 28 game winning streak dating back to last season. The 28 game winning streak was the second longest in NBA history. On Saturday night many Bucks fans who attended the game with T-shirts that said 24-1. By nights end those shirts were proven accurate as the Warriors would leave Milwaukee having lost their first game of the season to the Milwaukee Bucks by a score of 108-95.

The Bucks brought the energy, effort, and passion that were necessary to beat the Warriors from the opening tip on Saturday night. It takes a complete 48 minute effort on both ends to have a shot at defeating a team that is not only a defending champion but has also gone over a quarter of the season without a loss this year. That is type of effort the Bucks produced on Saturday night.

The Warriors are at or near the top of the NBA in several major categories like points margin of victory and fast-break points. The Bucks were able to hold Golden State well under their season averages in all of those categories. Perhaps even more important than any of those stats was how the Bucks did on three point defense. Three point defense has been a problem area for the Bucks defense this season but they did a great job of it against the best three point shooting team in the NBA. Steph Curry who is the conductor of the Warriors show was 10 for 21 on field goals and scored 28 points but he was only two for eight on three point attempts. The Warriors as a team average 13 made three pointers per night, but on Saturday night they were just six of 26 from long range.

NBA: Golden State Warriors at Milwaukee BucksThe Bucks were equally as impressive offensively. They picked and choose their spots to run on a Golden State team that seemed to be slightly lacking in the energy department as they were finishing a seven game road trip. The Bucks were able to run when the opportunity presented itself as they got 20 fast break points, and 60 points in the paint. The Bucks also did an excellent job of having players moving without the ball and keeping the ball moving quickly as opposed to standing, waiting and watching. The Buck’s ball and player movement showed in their made field goal to assists ratio. The Bucks made 44 field goals in the game and had assists on 31 of those field goals. But ultimately to beat a team like the Warriors you have to finish the game. Greg Monroe scored 17 of his 28 in the second half as did Michael Carter Williams who scored 15 of his 17 after the break. The Greek Freak recorded a triple double for the Bucks with 11 points, 12 rebounds and 10 assists. This is obviously the Bucks best win of the season over the defending champions. The Bucks should be extremely satisfied with their performance tonight but hopefully it will lead to them developing some consistency this season.BucksVSgs2

The reward that the Bucks get for beating Golden State for the first time this season? Heading out west to begin a four game road trip with games on Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday of next week. The Bucks will also face Golden State again in a rematch as the third game of the trip. That is quite the reward.
