3 Things we Learned from UFC 194

The biggest UFC event of the year is over and it certainly did not disappoint. 194 showcased the unpredictable nature of the sport and how exiting it can truly be. Here are some things we learned from last night’s action:

Demian Maia is the best BJJ fighter of our generation

ufc maia

Coming into the fight, we knew Maia was one of the best jiu-jitsu fighters ever, but now we know he is the best. Last night Maia made BJJ blackbelt Gunnar Nelson look like a white belt. Maia suffocated Nelson on the ground like a snake and took home a 30-26, 30-25,30-25 unanimous decision victory.

Luke Rockhold is really, really good

Luke Rockhold showed the world why it was he who deserved the title shot. Rockhold completely dominated former champ Chris Weidman. Rockhold came into the fight less than 100% and still put on a clinic. It will be interesting to see who his next matchup will be, but one would think it would be Yoel Romero, who beat Jacare Souza last night.

Conor McGregor can see the future

Conor McGregor did what he said he would do. He knocked out Jose Aldo in the first minute of the fight. I doubted McGregor coming into the fight, but I will never doubt him again! He showed me and the rest of the world that he is the real deal. It will be interesting to see if he moves up to lightweight to face the winner of dos Anjos-Cerrone.
