Monroe Returns To Motown But Bucks Fall

Greg Monroe and his Milwaukee Bucks teammates fell to the Pistons 97-92 in Detroit on Friday night. It was the first time that Monroe played in Detroit since the former Piston signed a free agent contract with the Bucks last summer.detroitvsBucks

Both teams struggled to score in the opening quarter. The Pistons took control of the game in the latter stages of the second quarter as they used an 11-2 to run to take an 11 point advantage into the locker room at half time. The opening and closing of quarters have been a problem area for the Bucks this season. Many times this year the Bucks have allowed multiple teams to gain or extended leads in the opening or closing three minutes of a half or quarter. The Bucks did not quit on this night however. They fought and battled the entire second half. They were able to close the Pistons lead down to as few as five points. Despite extending the game to the ultimate degree, the Bucks were unable to get over the hump as they dropped another road game. Monroe, for his part, played well in his return to the Motor City. Monroe scored 14 points and pulled down 13 rebounds in 33 productive minutes.

In case you missed it, here is our wrap-up on the previous Milwaukee Buck’s game!

The reasons for the Bucks going down had nothing to do with Monroe but rather with other issues that have been common problems for the Bucks this season. The Bucks committed 15 turnovers that the Pistons turned into 25 points. The Pistons on the other hand only committed 10 turnovers that the Bucks turned into 10 points. So that is a differential of 15 points off turnovers. Another issue tonight was three point differential. The Pistons hit seven three pointers compared to the Bucks four. This differential was closed by a couple of late Bucks three pointers but that differential still accounts for nine more points. Lastly, the Bucks gave up a significant differential in fouls and free throws. The Bucks committed 33 fouls leading to the Pistons shooting 27 of 39 on free throws. The Pistons meanwhile only committed 11 fouls leading to the Bucks going 13 of 14 on free throw attempts.BucksBayless

Another concerning area for the Bucks is that point guard Jerryd Bayless was lost in the middle of the third quarter due to a sprained ankle. This injury left the Bucks with only one healthy point guard on the roster in Michael Carter Williams. Bayless has already been ruled out for the game on Saturday.

The Bucks have been on the road heavily in recent weeks. They will be home for games on Saturday, Monday and Wednesday before hitting the road once again.
