Bear Down: Bears Shock Green Bay On Thanksgiving, remain in hunt for Wild Card

Before I get into talking about this game, let’s all agree that this was a fantastic game.

The Chicago Bears were 4-6 entering this game. Many actually believed they would be worse but Cutler has had some 4th quarter magic.

The Packers on the other hand were 7-3 and a top of the NFC North.

The Packers were the favorite heading into thanksgiving day as they should be. Come on, they have Aaron Rodgers, a MVP and Super Bowl winning QB.

CT spt_1105_bears_packers_08.JPGWith the recent struggles of the Packers, mainly giving the Detroit Lions their first win, there was a sense that this game would be a battle. And it turned out to be.

The Bears got Alshon Jeffery and Matt Forte back, which would be a huge boost to the offense. Guys like Jeremy Langford and Zach Miller took advantage of their playing time but having your stars back is always good, especially in a big game like this.

Oh by the way, Farve got his number put into the Lambeau Field Hall of Fame. It felt really good that the Bears ruined the night.

This game we truly a battle. Momentum shifts occurred on and off and the respective teams fed off of them.

TracyPorterThe difference factor in this game: Tracy Porter.

Porter was huge on Thursday night. Porter credited with 4 pass break-ups in GB, the most ever in a single NFL game vs. Aaron Rodgers. Now tell me that isn’t HUGE.

It wasn’t just Tracey who stepped up, Lamarr Houston woke up in that San Diego game and has continued to play well ever since. Houston had 1 sack and 2 tackles for lost vs. Green Bay.

Eddie Lacy’s fumble was a turning point. Turnovers don’t come easy vs this packers team so when they happen, opponents got to take advantage.

It was Jay Cutler’s play that really carried the day. He threw for 200 yards and 1 TD. He connected with Jeffrey for 90 and Wilson for 44 yards. His great reads and decision making set up scores for other teammates.

Matt-ForteLangford and Forte both had their share in the offense. These two guys are very athletic and can be a great duo to finish off the season.

This was a huge game. Whenever the Bears beat the Packers, it’s always a good thing. This gives the Bears a lot more confidence and a great start to finish off the season strong and make a push for the playoffs.

Looking ahead to next week, the Bears continue to stay in the wild card hunt as they host the 49ers at home.  The 49ers(3-8) come into Chicago really struggling this season. Blain Gabbert has taken over the starting QB job as Colin Kaepernick was benched earlier this season. The 49ers are also dealing with w significant loss of starters coming into this season.

I think the Bears cane cruise past the struggling 49ers. The offense has been consistent and the defense has really stepped up. The game is going to come down to not letting up big plays and having the momentum shift.

Prediction: 49ers-17 Bears-31
