Despite shooting 58% from the field the Knicks lose to the Houston Rockets in overtime.
Carmelo Anthony did not play because of illness. With Carmelo Anthony out, Aaron Affalo lead the Knicks with 31 points. Rookie Porzingis lead had 20 points and 13 rebounds as well.
The Rockets erased a 14 point deficit in the fourth quarter when Thorton hit a 3 pointer with 32 seconds left.”It was a lesson in perseverance,” said interim coach J.B. Bickerstaff. “We got down, but we didn’t give in. It is a credit to our guys’ mental toughness and fortitude.”
Part of the Knicks down fall was that they committed 21 turnovers.”The momentum of the game changed,” Knicks coach Derek Fisher said. “NBA games are long and we had some untimely turnovers. They really started to attack us in transition and we couldn’t stop that in the fourth quarter.” A key to the game was that they committed eight turnovers in the fourth and in overtime. The Rockets then capitalized when Trevor Ariza hit a clutch three in overtime and Thorton hit a couple of free throws to put the game away.
The Knicks have now lost 4 games in a row. They will try to get back on track Tuesday night when they take on the win less Sixers. The Rockets will try and build momentum off this victory when they play the Detroit Pistons Monday night.
