Martin Truex jr rise to glory

Martin_Truex_Jr._at_the_Daytona_500Martin Truex Jr. had an amazing journey to the championship round.  This is a driver who struggled all last season, he only had one top 5 finish.  Some of the struggles were due to the changes that were going on around him.  Truex jr. moved to Funiture Row Racing and drove the 78 car.  The combination of a move to a new team and horrible qualifying, led to a terrible 2014 campaign. He finished 24th in the Sprint Cup Series and only led 1 lap the whole season.

“Last year, we could just never find any consistency,” he said. “One week this worked, one week this worked, one week that worked. You can’t be inconsistent and run up front like that. You need to have a package that works for you and you can fine-tune each and every weekend, and we didn’t have that.” Those were his exact words as he expressed his frustration about last season.

Coming into 2015 season no one expected a championship caliber season out of the Martin Truex jr. Most sports reporters and sports writers projected Truex Jr. to finish outside of the top 12 for the second straight year.  He began his 2015 season hot leading the most laps in the Sprint Unlimited race.  Then he finished in the top 10 of his next 14 out of 15 races.  Around this time period people were shocked about how well he was doing, but he still had his doubters.  The highlight of the season for Truex jr was at Pocono. There he over took championship contender Kevin Harvick by 1.8 seconds to take the checkered flag. This snapped a 69 race winless streak and was the 4th straight race in which he led the most laps. This ultimately propeled him to qualifying 4th in the championship chase.
