Garde bans speaking French at Villa

New Aston Villa boss Remi Garde has banned the speaking of French at the club. garde d

The 49 year-old, who was appointed as Tim Sherwood’s successor on a three-and-a-half-year deal on Monday,  has already banned the speaking of his native tongue, despite four of the club’s summer signings joining from France.

Jordan Ayew, Jordan Veretout, Idrissa Gueye and Jordan Amavi all arrived this summer, joining French-born Charles N’Zogbia and Rudy Gestede at Villa Park, along with French speaking Phillippe Senderos and Carlos Sanchez.

“They have to learn English quickly. I don’t want anybody speaking French in the dressing room,” Garde told the BBC.

“It is very important we understand each other,” added Garde. “It’s also important that the English players speak slowly sometimes at the beginning. Everyone has to make an effort.”

Villa currently sit bottom of the Premier League table and have not won a league match since beating Bournemouth on the opening day of the season.

They entertain table-toppers Manchester City this Sunday.
