Nittany Lions outplay Illinois in 39-0 win

It is fair to say that Illinois got outplayed Saturday afternoon.

With the offense only putting up 167 yards, the Nittany Lions took advantage.

2 QBsThe Lions put together 400 total yards of offense in rout of their 39-0 win over the Illini. Quarterback Christian Hackenberg threw for 266 yards and two touchdowns. Over on the other side, Wes Lunt only completed 16 of his 37 pass attempts for 129 yards and threw one interception.

On the ground, Saquon Barkley ran for 84 yards and scored a touchdown for the Lions in the 4th quarter to make it 32-0. Ke’shawn Vaughn had a quiet day as he only ran for 38 yards on fifteen attempts.

The Nittany Lions were in a groove all day. They were able to punch one in the end zone at least once a quarter and never took their foot off the gas.

Illinois, 4-4, will look to fight to keep their bowl eligibility alive as they square off against Purdue, 2-6, next week at Ross-Ade Stadium.

Overall, not much is to be said about this game.  Penn State took care of business as Illinois failed to show up for work. It was a tough game to watch as Illinois showed some sparks of getting some points on the board but those hopes fell away quickly. Hopefully next week versus a struggling Purdue will get this Illinois team hungry for a bowl game. Illinois is the favorite, let’s see if they can follow through.
