Monday Morning QB

Drew_BreesNew Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees was an absolute stud on Sunday. He managed the best performance of his 15-year career, throwing for 511 yards and tying the NFL record with seven touchdown passes in a dramatic 52-49 victory over the New York Giants.

drew-brees-077641035“Brees had seven touchdowns. We told him the game ball is going to the kicker,” Saints coach Sean Payton joked afterward. “Brees just got in a rhythm. Guys did a good job separating. He’s done a good job practicing playing well, and when you don’t see a ball hit the ground in a while … it’s impressive.”

nfl_g_brees11_576Brees took advantage of the Giants defense early in the first half, starting with a flea flicker for a 34-yard touchdown strike to Willie Snead. That’s where it all started. Brees completed seven of nine passes for 162 yards and two touchdowns in the game’s first 15 mintues and had 300 yards and four touchdowns by halftime. He is now the 8th quarterback in NFL history to throw for seven touchdowns in a game, with Nick Foles and Peyton Manning the most recent to accomplish back in 2013. Brees’ 511 yards puts him 10th all time behind the seemingly unbreakable record of 554 yards set by Norm Van Brocklin back in 1951. The Saints are now 4-4 after winning three straight games for the first time since 2013.
