Celebrating the Win, Ruben Style

johnnie-102215New York Mets shortstop Ruben Tejada suffered a broken leg in the NLDS when Los Angeles Dodgers second baseman Chase Utley slid into him as he had his back to a play at second base that caused an awful injury that lead to much debate and speculation. Therefore, he didn’t get to participate in the team’s victory over the Chicago Cubs in the National League Championship Series. So he has become the club’s biggest cheerleader leading the celebration instead.

When his teammates earned a trip to the World Series with a dominating sweep of the Cubs, Tejada rewarded them and others in the organization with a bottle of Johnnie Walker Blue Label scotch whisky. Each bottle came engraved with “NLCS Champs 2015 Keep Walking.”

The generous gift went over well with his teammates, who have plenty of time to enjoy it before the start of the World Series on Oct. 27 against either the Kansas City Royals or the Toronto Blue Jays.

Tejada will be a free agent this winter after making nearly $2 million this season with the Mets. Affording the gift obviously wasn’t an issue, even though each bottle plus engraving likely cost more than $200.
