Hoiberg era starts with Win vs Cavs

Fred Hoiberg is a very happy man. Not only was his first NBA game s win but it was against the best player in the NBA, Lebron James.

The Chicago Bulls beat the Cleveland Cavaliers 97-95 on opening night at the United Center. The Bulls also opened up the season last year against the Cavs but fell in OT. It was a different outcome this time around.

With the firing of Thibodeau, the doubts lingered if the Bulls would have the defensive fire power they had under former Boston Celtics assistant. Fred Hoiberg brings a great offensive mind, a phase the Thibs lacked but the doubt of the defense still exists.

The game started very sloppy as either team could not get in a rhythm. Derrick Rose, still recovering from a orbital fracture, got off to a slow start shooting 1-4 before taking a seat early in the 1st quarter.

Nikola+Mirotic+Chicago+BullsNikola Mirotic put the team on his back tonight as he finished with 19 pts, 3/4 from three point range. Niko also had a crazy and 1 which even got the president to jump from his seat.

For the Cavs, Mo Williams rejoins Lebron and found his stroke early. Kyrie Irving will be out until late November as he is still recovering from a knee procedure.

The King, Lebron James played like everyone knew he would. James put up 25 points even while he sat most of the third quarter.

There is no way you cannot go without talking about Jimmy Butler. Butler played great defense all night against Lebron and hit big shots down the stretch to lock up the victory.

Fast forwarding to the end, the Cavs were down by 2 with 10 second left in regulation. Everyone knew the ball would be in James’ hand but the Bulls were determined to stop him. James drove to the rim only to be stuffed by Pau Gasol, who had six blocks on the night. Butler would later deflect the inbounds pass to give the Bulls the season opener.

The Bulls looked pretty good in the new style offense. A lot of isolation and off ball movement which really spreads out the defense and gives lanes for rose to drive. The system will continue to flourish as the Bulls have the roster that can do it.

The Bulls next game is tomorrow night in Brooklyn.
