Sherwood sacked by Villa
- Updated: October 27, 2015

Tim Sherwood has been sacked as Aston Villa manager after eight months in charge at the club.
The news came the day after Villa’s 2-1 home defeat by Swansea City – their sixth straight league defeat.
Following Sunderland’s victory over Newcastle on Sunday last year’s FA Cup finalists fell to the bottom of the table.
A statement released by the Villa board read: “The board believes the results on the pitch were simply not good enough and that a change is imperative.
“However, the Club would like to place on record its sincere thanks to Tim for all his efforts during a difficult period last season and for the many positive contributions he has made to the entire football setup during his time with the Club. We wish him well in the future.
“Assistant manager Ray Wilkins, first-team coach Mark Robson and performance analyst Seamus Brady have also left with immediate effect and do so with our best wishes.”
Sherwood succeeded Paul Lambert in February and took the club to Wembley as well as ensuring their Premier League survival with a 17th-placed finish last season.
Villa have struggled at the start of this campaign, losing eight of their opening 10 league matches and winning just one.
Former Lyon manager Remi Garde is the favorite to take over from Sherwood, with former Manchester United and Everton boss David Moyes also tipped for the hot seat.
The club’s Under-21 manager Kevin MacDonald has been placed in interim charge ahead of Wednesday’s League Cup game with Southampton.
