Blatter to appeal 90-day FIFA ban

BLATTERFIFA President Sepp Blatter is appealling against his 90-day from football’s governing body.

The 79 year-old was suspended by FIFA’s ethics committee, who also handed out 90-day bans to Michel Platini and Jerome Valcke – all three deny any wrongdoing.

Klaus Stohlker, Blatter’s friend and adviser, told the BBC: “He has appealed already to Fifa’s appeal committee. He is defending his position and he is sure that he will be found not guilty.”

Blatter is accused of signing a contract ‘unfavourable’ to FIFA and for making a ‘disloyal payplatiniment’ to Platini.

UEFA President Platini, who is bidding to replace Blatter as FIFA president in February, also vowed to appeal: “More than a  sense of injustice or desire for revenge, I am driven by a profound feeling of staunch defiance,” he said via the BBC. “I am more determined than ever to defend myself before the relevant judicial bodies.”

Valcke’s lawyer said that his client is ‘confident’ he will be fully cleared of the ‘false allegations’.

FIFA’s ethics committee has also banned presidential hopeful Chung Mong-joon for six years and a fine of $103,000, although he is also planning his appeal and considering legal action against FIFA and Blatter.

Blatter announced his intention to step down from his position in February 2016, having been elected for a fifth-term in office in May.

However, FIFA’s major sponsors, including Coca-Cola and Visa, called Blatter to resign immediately after Swiss criminal proceedings were opened against him in September.

Meanwhile, Issa Hayatou, the African Football Federation boss since 1988 and current FIFA vice-president, has been placed temporarily in charge of FIFA in the absence of Blatter.
