THE RETURN OF MICHIGAN HELMET STICKERS
- Updated: September 14, 2015

There is yet another Michigan tradition returning to the football program in 2015 that has not been utilized since the 1994 season.
Head Coach Jim Harbaugh has announced helmet stickers will return to the famed Winged Helmets of the Michigan Wolverines after a 20 year absence.
Lloyd Carr, who became head coach of the Wolverines prior to the 1995 season, decided to drop the tradition of awarding players helmet stickers and it continued throughtout the tenures of both Rich Rodriguez and Brady Hoke.
Wide receiver Amara Darboh, who caught eight passes for 101 yards and a touchdown in Thursday’s loss to the Utah Utes at Rice Eccles Stadium, received the most stickers with nine.
Tight end Jake Butt received eight stickers for his eight catch, 93 yard, one touchdown performance against the Utes.
“I think it’s awesome,” Butt said Monday. “I think it’s just another way to create an environment of competition. You don’t want to be the guy with an empty helmet at the end of the year. Everybody has a chance to win some stickers.”
Harbaugh, who played for Bo Schembechler and earned many helmet stickers during his four years in Ann Arbor, gave a breakdown of how players can earn the helmet awards.
“There’s team criteria, there’s unit criteria, and there’s individual criteria,” Harbaugh said Monday.
Both Darboh and Butt first saw the helmet stickers when they arrived for practice on Sunday.
